The Tomy mini-walkabout has been great for us this summer, we are able to sit outside in the evenings (unfortunately, it hasn't been very often this year!) without worrying about our 4 month old baby girl being asleep. It has also meant that whenever she has fallen asleep in the day, I have been able to put her upstairs away from my 3 year old son (who finds it highly amusing to wake her up!). I am then able to get on with the housework, play with my son etc. with the comfort and security of knowing I can hear when she awakes. The Baby's Unit has a comforting night light which can be switched on or off and can be placed up to 3 metre (10 ft) away from your baby. I found it amazing that even from 3 metres away I could hear her breathing on the very lowest volume setting. Both the Baby's Unit and the Parent's Unit are mains operated via the adaptor with the added bonus of the Parent's Unit having a battery compartment (it takes 4 x AAA batteries (LR03) not supplied) to make it truly portable, and being small and robust you can clip it to your belt leaving your hands free! The volume control (placed at the top of the Parent's Unit) is excellent and the minimum volume is pre-set so it can not be accidentally turned down too low. Both units also have 2 Channels (A & B) incase you pick up any interference or a neighbours baby monitor! All you have to do is change both monitors to the channel that has the best reception but quite frankly I have had no interference on either channels. My husband and I looked at a few baby monitors but found this one to be the most suitable and best value for money. I couldn't recommend this enough for new parents, for the reassurance of your baby sleeping safely. I know that when I was a new mum, I was up and down the stairs like a yo-yo because our previous baby monitor was not as effective, I only wish we had had the Tomy mini walkabout then, maybe we would have slept better ourse lves!

A good value monitor that serves it's purpose. It doesn't have fancy flashing lights like some do, but it does the job of monitoring your baby, so what else do you need? It has a very good range (about 100m), which was very useful when baby is in the house and you're out hanging out the washing. The parents unit is fully portable with a belt clip. The baby's unit has a very useful nightlight, which can be switched on or off separate to the actual monitor. You get the mains adaptors supplied, but the parents unit can also take batteries so it is fully portable. All in all an excellent monitor for a good price.
