I think that baby monitors are a great idea. They give you such peace of mind when your baby first goes in their own room and you will be suprised just how much noise your baby does actually make!! With such a vast array of different monitors on the market, it is hard knowing which one is right for you. I chose the Tomy Recharge-about for the simple reason that it was on offer in Mothercare and it seemed to have everything I wanted. The parents monitor can either be plugged in at the mains or simply charged up and be put down anywhere. It features an adjustable volume control, a mute switch and a moving light display. I know that it might sound a bit strange having a mute button on a baby listener but I have used it on more than one ocassion and you can see how much noise is going on by the lights! The babies monitor has two setting so you can either have it set up as low (if your baby is close to the monitor) or on high (if baby is further away). Once again you can either plug this monitor into the mains or it takes 4 AA batteries if you prefer. This monitor is very strong and robust. It has been knocked down the stairs on more than one ocassion and still works brilliantly. All in all this is a great monitor and I would strongly recommend it.

We had a pub when my first was born so I was anxious about working downstairs whilst baby slept. My mum bought me Tomy Walk about as a gift and I never looked back. The pub could get roudy and the jukebox loud on a Saturday night but as soon as the baby even murmered I heard him. So did the regulars!. He was two floors up so that somes up the hearing range!. I still have it and use it for my latest arrival. We live in a house now so the range is excellent. In the summer I have been able to sit in the garden with a magazine knowing I will hear him if he stirs. Very good buy and good value for money.
