“ Brand: Tomy / Safety Type: Baby Monitors „
Falling pregnant so young the whole baby world was completely alien to me and a lot of my buys were things I thought I needed, not what I actually did. Thankfully the Tomy Walkabout 3000 was not something I regretted buying. Bought from Toys R Us for around £40, yes it wasn't an all singing all dancing monitor but my auntie had used hers for all four of her children so I had complete faith in it. You plug the baby monitor in the room where baby is asleep or playing and then the parent monitor you can either plug in in the room you are in or put batteries into the back to take it outside say for instance if you are gardening whilst baby naps. As soon as baby makes a noise it will come through to the parent monitor and also the lights along the top light up with every noise. There's volume control on the side and the monitor can be fully muted and you can watch for the lights if your baby wakes up. It has two channels to choose from to avoid interference although mine stayed on A the whole time I used it. It was a very quiet monitor unlike the one my mother had which was very crackly. Overall this product really does speak for itself and is a bargain and great for reassurance. We stopped using it when our son was 18 months old, purely because we bought him a night display which had a built in monitor. Unfortunately during our house move one of our monitors got lost so for the next baby we will be going for another Tomy model as I believe this model is no longer available.
We initally wanted the unit with the talkback facility which worked out about 20.00 more but were unable to get it, so we bought the walkabout instead, and am very glad we did. We bought it for our first child, and thought the talkback would be useful, in hindsight it wouldn't have been, the baby is either asleep in which case you wouldn't want to wake it, or awake in which case you end up going upstairs to it anyway. It consists of the unit in the baby room, and the unit for listening which comes with a detachable middle. We have found this really useful as it means we can listen from anywhere in the house, garden, I can even get to the car up the end of the garden with mine. We found it invaluable in the summer when you want to sit in the garden, or if you are staying over somewhere away from home you can just plug in the unit in the baby room and you can carry the detachable unit around with you. Our house is by no means huge but there are parts of it where you cannot hear if the whole unit is together, so it has been really handy to be able to take it in the kitchen and have the radio on and know you can hear baby if he wakes. It has two channels although we have never had any interference on ours, it can get a bit squeaky if you get too close to the PC with it. It also has a volume control on the detachable unit. The sound quality is excellent to the extent that if you turn it right up you can hear baby breathing. We would be lost without it now!!
We bought this monitor for our second child (not being happy with the first one we had) Initially I felt it was a lot of money but that soon went as I realised just how great this monitor is. It has a night light and 2 different channels to use (good if close neighbours also use a tomy monitor), the "kids end" comes with a clip so you can make it portable (this unfortunately does not have a hole to stick the mains through) should baby be sleeping in its pram or playpen etc. The parent unit comes with a little walk about unit in the middle this is a great feature if you wish to go into the garden or walk around the house you dont need to worry about taking the unit with you. The range is great and I can take it to the bottom of the garden without any trouble (80 feet) sound comes through clear with no (or very little) interference. The main unit has a light display great if you are in a room with a lot of noise as you can keep a eye on the unit to see if there is any noise coming from baby. All in all a great monitor that I would recommend highly
This is one of the most useful products we have got for our babies. We bought it for our first child and are still using it with our second. It just has to be in the same room as the baby and it will pick up anything louder than light breathing. The only drawbacks are that we have had it on for so long now that the batteries in the protable unit have completely drained and we need to get them replaced, but the range on this monitor is very adequate and we have used it all over a large house and garden with not too many reception problems. The moitor comes with two channels to help reduce the problem of interference and there are several other parents with moitors with 2/3 houses of us and they have never picked up our monitor and we have never heard their. This is an absolute essential for peace of mind - you can put your children down to bed and are then safe in the knowledge that you can hear them quickly if they wake up. Two very important things to remember: 1. Don't forget to switch it on - "The kids are very quiet tonight dear". 2. Don't forget it is switched on - "Oh God! I hate it when your mother comes to visit!"
We bought this baby monitor because the parent unit comes out of the charger holder and can be cliped to your belt. Very handy if you go in the back garden or in a room where you wouldn't be able to hear the monitor. A good feature it has is the night light. Our daughter seemed happier when we left a night light on, and used to always touch it before she went to sleep. The only draw back was the parent unit broke a couple of months ago, and we found out it was because we used to put it on the radiator. This must have damaged the mechanism inside. We have since had it replaced with a new one. It does warn you in the manual not to put on the radiator, but we mustn't have read that bit!!
The first baby purchase I made was a baby monitor! I bought it with my catalogue commission and it was so worth it! It is the one with a mains/ battery baby unit with a pram/crib clip...although you cannot use the clip with the mains plug in. It also has a mains/rechargable parent unit. A godsend for anyone that has a big house and can't be hauling the plug in from room to room. I can just put my son iin his cot and clip the unit to my belt and go about my business whereever in the house I am without having to check on him. I'm sure it has helped his bedtime/sleep routine because we are not constantly going into him with no reason. I don't knopw how we would manage without it.
A baby monitor that aims to convey your baby's every sound to your unit. The monitor gives you the option to listen to your baby or let the sound-sensitive light display show you whether your baby is breathing peacefully or crying
