Baby Walkabout Advance from Tomy

Living in a flat I felt I did not really need the most high tech and expensive of monitors and just needed one that really did the job. I was looking at all the ones available to buy on Amazon and this one sprang out at me.

It was not the cheapest monitor going but it certainly was not the most expensive either. Monitors range from about £15 up to an astonishing £100 plus. The latest ones out on the market offer a television screen where you are actually able to see your baby as well as hear their sounds and monitor room temperature. I feel however the television screen is a little bit much and think I would find myself glued to the screen while all the time away from the baby.

This particular baby monitor set me back only £29. I think this is a fair price for what you are getting and this included the postage and packing. The monitor arrived within two days and was so simple to set up and start to use.

The Walkabout Advance Monitor comprises of two separate units, one for the parents and one for the baby. The parent monitor takes two AA batteries and can be moved throughout the home. The baby unit can take either two AA batteries or can be plugged in with the adaptor provided. I use the plug to operate this unit as it invariably stays in the same place and this ensures that the batteries will not run out. Both units look the same and are large chunky and white in colour with a blue aerial.

The monitors have the option to choose from four different channels so that you are able to get the clearest sound possible. On the parent unit there is a volume button that I always have turned right up and as Jack is a bit of a snorey baby I can even hear him sleep! The sound is very clear and I only occasionally get interference when buses pass by our flat.

There is also the option on the parent monitor to speak to your baby or indeed anyone in the baby’s room. This is ideal when my partner is seeing to jacks nappy and he is due for a feed, I can press the talk button and let my partner know that a bottle is on and will be ready when needed. There is not a talk button on the baby unit but I don’t feel there needs to be as you can hear anything that is said and reply to it with the talk button on the parent unit.

The monitors have a 300 meter range and this is more than enough for us as the monitor works so well positioned anywhere at all in the flat. The Walkabout Advance monitor is suitable from birth and I would say it is a real bargain and well worth the money paid.

The monitor gives peace of mind as well as being a great way to monitor if your child wakes in the night or after a nap. It really enables you to get on with the other things that need doing in the house and not be tied to sitting with the baby. Of course checking in on the baby is still a must every now and again as there really is no substitute for human contact. This monitor however does everything you would really need from a monitor. The sound is clear and the volume loud enough to hear them snore. The price is very reasonable and I am very pleased I did not pay out as whole lot more money for a more hi-tech one as I feel this does the job perfectly.

Summary: a great monitor at a great price
