Advantages: Doesnt suffer from buzzing noises when turned on, lots of features too

Disadvantages: LED sometimes flicker for no reason

We originally bought the Walkabout Platinum because it was half price, and have found the unit to be very good, but like everything, nothing perfect and it does suffer from a minor flaw.

First of all the good. The units come in a pair of two, with the Baby Unit having a very sensitive microphone to pick up the slighest movement of your child, and it is possible to hear them breathing if you listen closely enough. It also has a powerful night light on it for when the child gets a little afraid of the dark, and relays the room temperature back to the parent unit, allowing you to decide on wether to open windows in the summer or turn on the heating in the winter. Very useful stuff.

The Parent unit is very portable, and charges itself when put back on its stand, just like a portable household telephone. It has a digital volume control and also the option to switch the unit onto vibrate mode, which is useful for when your watching television or listening to music, but probably not the best thing to use when your in bed trying to go to sleep, because chances are it wont wake you up when it goes off.
The battery life is satisfactory but should always be put back on charge when not in use!

One thing i have found to be a little pointless is the ability to talk back to your child by pressing the talk button and speaking into the parent unit. I have found that this is just a good way to inadvertantly confuse the poor child, but it does have its uses e.g. if your partners looking for something in the nursery and cant find it, you can use the parent monitor to tell them where it is from your living room.

Now for an annoyance that this product gives me.
The Parent unit has Eight led lights to indicate the volume of noise that is being picked up by the microphone on the baby unit. Occasionally one of these lights will flicker for no reason, and it is highly unlikely to be just my unit which does it because in another review i noticed that they had the same problem too. I cant seem to figure it out, it cant be interference because it only happens on occasions. This can be a real pain when you are trying to get some well deserved shut-eye.

Overall this product was a pretty good buy, but i may have considers an alternative if i was paying full price, it deoes seem a little expensive.

Summary: A great monitor if found for the right price
