“ Brand: Nussbeisser / Type: Nuts „
Reviewing German chocolate is not a suck up to dooyoo but more a case of being surprised that Alpen Gold hasn't really made it on to the UK market it in a big way. Whilst it's understandable that Cadbury's is the chocoholics choice and Thornton's is left for more special moments, Milka, Nestle and Masterfoods have clearly shown there's room for other products and Alpen Gold's distinctively rich Bavarian chocolate range has a lot to offer.
The most notable of all those products (unless you have nut allergies obviously) is the robust slab of chocolate "Nussbeisser", a scrummy snack if ever there was one but not to be kept in the fridge too long if you value your teeth. In fact if you've dubious dental records at all, you may want to stay away from this because it's nut city down there in the Nussbeisser zone.
Whole hazelnuts are encarcerated in a delicious layer of milk chocolate, the chocolate is notably different from Cadbury's, tastes like a kind of less bitter, more rich version of Milka. Personally I'd still run with Cadbury's but this offers a nice alternative plus you can review it.
The downside is its lack of availability in most large supermarket chains, it's best found in the foreign food sections, as it is mostly marketed to German, Czech Republic, Russia and Poland.
