Advantages: Lots of strawberry pieces in each chunk
Disadvantages: None at all
I recently popped into a local Asda to pick up a few bits and spotted their white chocolate bars with strawberry pieces. I was spending the evening with my Mum so thought I would take a bar round for us. Its from the Chosen By You range and costs 50p for a 100g bar.
The chocolate is sold in a black and red wrapper which displays the Asda Chosen by you logo at the top. On the front of the bar there's a picture of a pile of chocolate full of strawberry pieces with a couple of strawberries beside it. Apart from informing the customer that this is White chocolate with strawberry pieces that's all there is on the front of the bar.
The back of the wrapper gives all the usual nutritional information for those who wish to read them, ingredients and allergy warnings stating that the product may contain traces of peanut and sesame oil. it also advises that the chocolate contains milk and Soya. The chocolate bar is suitable for vegetarians and Asda state it contains " no artificial colours, flavourings or hydrogenated fat" It sounds almost good for you until you read that this little 100g bar contains 548 calories and 32g of fat! Never mind though the strawberries must make up for some of that.
When opened the chocolate looks just like your average white chocolate bar apart from the fact that it has a slight pink tinge to it. The top is smooth and its not until you turn it over that you see the little pieces of strawberry in it. The chocolate bar smells sweet and delicious and I have to say is really jam packed with fruit.
Asda's white chocolate with strawberry pieces is delicious, the chocolate tastes rich and creamy, and whilst its very sweet the little chunks of freeze dried strawberries are very fruity and tangy and compliment the chocolate perfectly, there's plenty of these chewy fruit pieces in each chunk of chocolate too. I do sometimes find white chocolate can be too rich and a bit sickly but this isn't, the strawberries take that strong sweetness away. It would have been very easy to consume a whole bar in one sitting but my common sense ( or diabetes) prevailed and I controlled myself.
I will definitely be buying another of these chocolate bars. Asda, in my opinion, have hit onto a winner with these.
