Happy Easter dooyooers! It is Good Friday so it seemed the right time to review the first of my Easter Eggs this year, which admittedly I was given and completely demolished before Easter had even begun!
This Cadbury's Dairy Milk Buttons Egg is a classic that has been around in various forms for many, many years. It is easily recognised by the familiar purple Cadbury's cardboard box which allows a glimpse of the purple foil wrapped egg within. This year's box includes a picture of an owl on the back which children can colour in, which is a nice little bonus.
The box contains a medium sized chocolate egg which is in two halves. I like the eggs that come in two pieces as they are easier to eat without getting in a mess, and they also encourage you to stop at half the egg rather than eating the whole thing at once! The egg is very pretty as it has a picture of a cute easter chick and some flowers embossed on it, which makes it more interesting for children than plain eggs. Inside the egg is a clear cellophane bag filled with chocolate buttons.
The egg and buttons taste exactly as you would expect them too. I am not going to say that I found them to be amazing as I am not a huge fan of Dairy Milk and prefer the richer taste of Galaxy or the more luxurious taste of Lindt. However the chocolate is definitely passable and even if it does taste a bit cheap it will go down a treat with children.
The box contains nutritional information which is good as I find this is oddly lacking on many easter eggs. Half the egg contains 205 calories, 11.6 grams of fat and 21.9 grams of carbohydrate. Sugars and saturates aren't listed but I assume they are pretty high. The buttons packet contains 170 calories, 9.7 grams of fat and 18.4 grams of carbohydrates. Although these values are high, they are not excessive for an Easter egg and after all, Easter only comes once a year!
I would definitely recommend this egg for kids as it will appeal to them and it's not too large or indulgent. However as an adult I always hope for something a bit more luxurious and extravagant!
This egg costs only £1 from Asda which I think is a complete bargain and excellent if you have lots of children to buy eggs for!
Summary: A bargain!
