Advantages: Cheap, good cadbury chocolate covering
Disadvantages: Too chewy
Cabury's Chomp is one of the cheaper 'pocket money' type bars, I remember them being 10p when I used to buy them after school, but they're more like 15p-20p in sweet shops now! Up there with Freddo the Frog and Curly Wurlys these were a favourite.
A friend recently bought me a selection pack which had a Chomp bar in it and, trying one again as an adult I wasn't so in love with it this time around. For a small bar it does last me quite a long time.
This is due to the fact is sooo chewy! For toffee lovers it's a great treat but I think myself and my teeth are no longer fans of chewy toffee. The description of the bar on the wrapper is 'Milk Chcolate with a caramel Centre'. Now I think of caramel as the gooey type you get in a Cadbury's Caramel, not the chewy type which I would call toffee. I'm not going to get into a Caramel/Toffee debate, I'm sure one of you will be able to give me a definition of each to tell the difference. all I'll say it if it is indeed caramel, it's the chewy sort. I would describe it as chewy caramel with a thin layer of chocolate coating as the caramel makes up the bulk of the bar.
The bars haven't changed their packaging that much as far as I remember, though the red, purple and yellow wrapper is now shiny and metallic. 'Chomp' is aptly named as that's exactly what you need to do to get through it!
For those of you interested in calorie content, well it's nearly all sugar so it's not good news! Per bar (which is 'ickle, but I couldn't actually find a weight on the packaging, maybe it was on the outer selection box pack which I threw away)
110 cals
16g Carb (of which 10.6g sugar)
4.7g Fat (of which 2.6g saturates)
Overall, for toffee lovers it's a winner, but for me, nowadays, too much chew and not enough choc!!
Summary: Too much chompin involved!
