Cadbury Crunchie Rocks
Advantages: You get quite a lot in the bag
Disadvantages: Disappointing taste
Price: £1 on offer (usually around £1.89)
I've always adored Cadbury's Crunchies, so when I spotted these Crunchie Rocks on offer in Morrisons I had to give them a go. I also recently tried the new Crunchie biscuits, which turned out to be a massive disappointment, so I was hoping against hope that these would live up to the Crunchie name!
They come in a resealable foil pouch so you're not pressured to eat them quickly as you can just re-fasten the bag. However, when they say it's resealable, they just mean it has a sticker on the back of the pack which you can use to stick the top of the bag down, and this doesn't always stay in place, particularly when you get towards the bottom of the pack.
The Rocks are basically bits of honeycomb and cornflakes stuck together in clumps with chocolate. They are all different shapes and sizes and they don't look anything like rocks, so I'm not really sure where the name comes from.
Until I read the description on the back of the pack I wasn't aware that there were cornflakes in them. I could just about tell that there might be something other honeycomb pieces, but I wasn't sure and certainly couldn't have told you what it was. I think they add simply to the texture rather than the taste to be honest.
The texture is very crunchy, a combination of the honeycomb and the cornflakes, then you have the chocolate to just soften it up that little bit. They taste ok, though as I said before I couldn't really taste the cornflakes. The honeycomb tastes quite nice but it's not the same as biting into a Crunchie bar. The chocolate is just the usual Cadbury chocolate, in fairly sparing amounts so it doesn't get too boring, and the overall taste of the Rocks are not too sweet or sickly.
A third of the bag (around 49g) contains 235 calories, 30.6g sugar, and 10.3g fat. This is quite high for me, especially considering the taste is nothing special. I'd much prefer to just stick to the usual Crunchie bar which tastes much better.
All in all I found these quite disappointing.
Thumbs down from me.
