“ Brand: Cadbury's / Type: Dark „
I have always just adored Flakes so when the opportunity arose to try the new flake dark I was really looking forward to it.
There is not much difference in the wrapping or indeed the appearance of the Flake itself. The wrapper has the additional word dark printted in not too large letters to the bottom right hand corner of the original Flake wording. It is printed at an angle and is in a dark brown colour.
The flake is slightly darker than the original but not so much as you'd think it was actually dark chocolate, it is just short of eight inches long and about three quarters of an inch in diameter. It looks for all the world like loads of thin strips of chocolate joined together, it has a very uneven surface and actually looks quite inviting.........LIKE any chocolate bar doesn't.
My first bite was very aprehensive and in fact I was not too sure that I was enjoying the expeience, it was definately chocolatey but not as bitter as I had anticipated. However the bitterness did creep in after the third or fourth bite, there was a sweetness but it tended to be over-ridden by the bitter taste. This is by no means a negative since dark chocolate is intended to taste like this, well actually most dark chocolate is a bit mor bitter than this so I would be content to say this was somewhere in between say a Bournville bar and a dairy milk.
They retail at around 50p and are pretty good value for money. They might take a bit of getting used to for most chocolate lovers but are worth the effort and are a nice little change from the norm.
It's been staring at me for a week now, teasing me and tempting me. I have resist, my love of dark chocolate is being forced back down until today when my desires fought through, I bought one and it only cost me 44p.
I have not had a flake in quite some time, I did try the Praline one when it came out but to be quite honest I was not that impressed. I am hoping that the Flake Dark will not disappoint me.
I have it here sat in front of me and the traditional yellow foil wrapper is pleading with me to open it. It is of course a flake but this is no ordinary flake it has dark chocolate rather than milk. The only difference to the wrapper is that it has a red corner on the right hand side with the word "dark".
Enough of this boring stuff lets tuck in. As I peal away the wrapper I can smell the lovely scent of dark chocolate. Upon biting into the flake it does not seem to be as crumbly as the traditional flake but the taste is very creamy and melts nicely into my pallet. Since I am now working my way down the flake the crumbs are now starting to appear but the bar does hold together very well and therefore most of the chocolate ends up in my mouth.
Dark chocolate has a very rich taste but yet is not bitter at all like some dark chocolate can be. I think I like best about this flake is once the chocolate hits your tongue it begins to melt and crumb in your mouth. There is also a nice lasting chocolate taste left in your mouth giving you the feeling that you have really indulged yourself.
As with all chocolate we must now suffer the consequences of our actions. However I was pleasantly surprised, 160 calories in this bar and 9.5g of fat not bad really, I have eaten worse.
There is a warning that this product contains milk ingredients and may also contain traces of nuts.
Now what did I think? Yummy, yummy, yummy and did I mention it was yummy? I only wish that it were not 10pm in the evening so I could go a buy another one, actually that is probably a good thing or I might buy the whole shop out!
The flake had a lovely taste which also has a nice after taste and I shall definitely be buying this one again even though it will not help my waistline if I start eating too many.
I bought this from my local One Stop shop for 44p, which is quite good, value considering what you get for your money. I still do not know how I managed to buy it at lunchtime and save it until now
If you are a fan of dark chocolate then I would recommend that you try this one because you might enjoy this flake as much as I did. Please be aware though that it is all dark chocolate, no milk or white chocolate in sight.
Thanks for reading.
