Advantages: they are a cheap chocolate bar
Disadvantages: taste different to what they used to
Cadburys has always been my favourite chocolate brand. Ever since I was little, I have been a fan of fudge as well. It's a favourite of my dad, and the preference seems to have passed down to me.
One little stick of this chocolate covered fudge has definitely gotten small and more expensive over the years. I'm sure it's not just me getting old.
The packaging hasn't change very much in all the years I have been buying these little bars of heaven. They are still the orange and purple wrapper, purple being the token Cadbury colour of late.
Back in my childhood I didn't pay more than ten pence for one of these bars, and even now they are only between fifteen and twenty pence for one depending on where you get it from.
Usually you can get more of them included in an offer, and you will always find one in the selection boxes at Christmas time.
Opening the wrapper of my little bar, you find a bar of chocolate no bigger in diameter than your average middle digit on your hand. A thin layer of milk chocolate surrounds the centre of solid creamy fudge.
A bar, gone in a couple of mouth fulls, is a lovely couple of mouth fulls. A mixture of creaminess from the fudge and that lovely creamy richer taste of milk chocolate that only Cadburys can do, The chocolate almost melts in my mouth, whereas the fudge is a lot harder and more synthetic than it used to be from memory. It is also a lot sweeter if memory serves me correctly, and a not very natural kind of sweet, more something manufactured.
This is a shame as I remember a lot about the fudge melting in my mouth as I savoured every last piece.
A fudge bar contains 110 calories and 3.7g fat. All that in a tiny 25g bar that wont last you more than thirty seconds. Is it really worth it?
It also may contain traces of egg and nuts so anyone with any allergies should be careful.
I did feel fairly let down after eating my bar out of this years selection pack. Needless to say i probably wont be taking the shops up on all those offers of buy a thousand for a pound in the near future.
I would imagine all the same jokes surrounding a fudge bar are still around however. Some things never change.
