Advantages: great tasting and inexpensive

Disadvantages: high fat and rather small

Cadbury's fudge consists of an outer coating of cadbury's milk chocolate wrapped around a long semi circular piece of soft fudge. It was first introduced by Cadbury's (the second largest confectionary manufacturers in the world) in 1946 and has proved a great hit with children (and adults!) ever since. Most famous for the slogan 'a finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat', as well as the single bars, multipacks and Cadbury fudge ice cream are also now available. Expect to pay 15p for an individual bar and £1 for four ice creams.

Cadbury fudge cannot be mistaken - it comes in an easy open bright orange wrapper with purple ends and the word 'fudge' is written in bright blue edged with purple across the centre of the wrapper. Keep in a cool dark place (the chocolate will melt if it is hot) and it should keep for several months.

A standard 25.5 gram bar contains 110 calories, 16.1 grams of sugar and 3.9 grams of fat (of which 2.2 is saturated). As a chocolate bar, this was never going to be healthy, although, as one of the smaller bars in the range, the amount of sugar and saturated fat is particularly high. These are also suitable for vegetarians and coeliacs.

There is something very simple and satisfying about a cadbury's fudge bar. The chocolate, as you would expect from Cadbury's, is smooth, thick and milky, and the fudge inside is very sweet and soft (almost melt in the mouth). The combination of the two is really delicious, although my only complaint is the bar is too small - very good as a naughty snack for children though.

Summary: great as a small naughty treat
