Advantages: Taste great and look wonderful
Disadvantages: The strings are not ready tied and are very awkward
I don't usually put chocolates on my Christmas tree because the temptation for my three greedy cats is too great, but this afternoon my sisters were coming round with their numerous grandchildren and my own three granddaughters' would be there too so I decided to buy some chocolates for them to take off the tree after their dinner.
In Wilkinsons the only tree chocolates they had were these Cadbury ones, which were reasonably priced at £1.99 for ten chunky chocolates and looked lovely so I bought two packets for the children to share.
When I got them home and took them out of the sturdy packaging I realised I was going to have problems because the strings not already tied. I have arthritis in my hands and no way could pull off tying those fiddly gold threads into tight double knots, I had to wait for my sisters to arrive so they could tie them up for me and the kids could put them on the tree for later.
Once they were on the tree they looked lovely and colourful; the chocolates are wrapped in a beautifully designed foil printed with a Santa motif, or snowman, or holly leaves. Each chocolate is cheerfully designed to add a bit of fun to the Christmas tree.
When we had eaten the children dived at the chocolates, but luckily left one for us three Nans - or the Witches of Macbeth, as my son in law cheekily commented when he popped in!
These chocolate treats are wonderful, I haven't bought Christmas tree chocolates for about 15 years and the quality has certainly improved from the fragile hollow snowman available then! I knew these would be good as I generally have confidence in anything from Cadbury's, but these really are lovely.
It's Dairy Milk chocolate moulded into the same design as it's wrapping foil, which is nice because as I recall most tree chocolates are a smooth and plain square. The chocolates are solid, as you would expect from the weight of them, and are the smooth and creamy consistency you would expect from milk chocolate by Cadburys.
The children all thoroughly enjoyed them, as did us adults, with even my 18 month old granddaughter munching her way through one. The chocolates are so chunky that that must be the equivalent of half a Mars bar considering how small she is! She got herself into a right mess but........ well, who cares really!
I thought they hung nicely from the tree too, they are just the right weight that they hang straight but didn't drag the branches of my fibre optic tree. This is great as since I bought this tree I've noticed that it doesn't hold particularly heavy decorations, in fact it doesn't hold decorations very well at all. I have even had to hang the salt dough decorations my granddaughter made on my money plant because they are too heavy for the fibre optic strands!
In all I'm impressed with these Christmas tree decorations, for the price they were substantial chocolates and a definite treat for the children. There are 60 calories and 3.5g of fat in each chocolate square, which isn't too bad considering you get a real mouthful of smooth creamy Dairy Milk and they look great too.
Summary: The perfect festive addition to my tree!
