Cadbury's Giant Buttons
Disadvantages: Fattening and Calorific
I don't know what it is about giant buttons, but to me the're far superior to their regular sized counterpart!
They are, of course, fairly calorific therefore they should be indulged upon as a treat, and the guideline amount on the packaging should not be considered to be a "recommended daily amount!".
Each 1/4 of a bag contains 230 calories (not so good for the waistline...), 24.8 g of sugar, 13.1 grams of fat and a whopping 8.1. grams of saturated fat (40.5% of your recommended daily allowance!) and finally a modest 0.1. grams of salt.
So when you consider that the resealable pouch of giant buttons is 175g in weight, a quarter of this is 43.75 grams of chocolate goodness. That's hardly anything!
I now feel bad for eating about half the pack last night now. Oh well.
Despite the calories, they are a fun snack, great for sharing but the only downside is that one will inevitable lead to another...
The packaging is aesthetically pleasing. A metallic purple with a picture of two eyes on the front with the pupils replaced by a giant button. Cute.
I like how Cadbury is now fair trade, and this is displayed prominently on the packaging next to the fact that Cadbury is (apparently) the "official treat provider for the 2012 olympics".
One feature of the packaging which i feel is a benefit is the resealble sticker included so that you can close the packet again after you've had enough. Unfortunately, i've found that after a few uses it begins to lose its stick and i had an unfortunate experience where the packet undid itself in my bag which resulted in a crumbly chocolatey mess at the bottom of my bag. Just a warning that this isn't a failsafe method of resealing your chocolate.
Despite all of its shortcomings, i am still a massive fan of the humble chocolate button and the giant ones just make the treat that little bit more satisfying.
Yesterday (19th May 2010) in the Leeds towncentre Sainsbury's they are selling the 175g bags of buttons for £1 reduced from £1.79, i'd suggest you go have a look for yourself if this offer is on at your local supermarket.
The chocolate is velvety, milky, soft and leaves a pleasant aftertaste in your mouth. I may just have to have another...
Summary: Lovely treat
