Advantages: Tasty, attractive packaging

Disadvantages: Fat and sugar

Recently my eldest has started school and although I wanted to pay for her to have school dinners and have a hot meal like most 4 year olds she had other ideas and insisted on a packed lunch. The next issue I had was what could I put in her packed lunch that would be easy for her to deal with by herself, I went for the basis of healthy items plus one treat and since I found these at 75p for a pack of 6 in Asda I decided these could be one of her treat options.

Like I day I got them on offer at 75p but they do usually cost a bit more at 97p or you can often pick up a 12 pack which is generally better value. The mini rolls come in two varieties, original and strawberry and at the moment they have brought out a special edition for Halloween.

The packaging is made of soft plastic in bright purple like most of the Cadbury items have with the words mini rolls in large white writing that is quite childish and I think this is done purposely to draw in children. Mini rolls are not the healthiest of items but being chocolate based you wouldn't think they would be good for you, the nutritional information per cake is,
Calories - 120
Protein - 1.4g
Carbs - 15.1g (sugars 12.3g)
Fat - 6.2g (saturates 3.1g)
As a treat I believe these are ok but I wouldn't allow my daughter to eat one every day as the saturated fat content is 15.5% of an adults daily intake so would be more of a childs.

Inside the pack there are 6 individually wrapped cakes, these are wrapped in bright purple wrappers and display the same words as the main packet. The description on the pack is "chocolate flavoured sponge with vanilla flavour filling, covered with milk chocolate" I personally like to eat these straight from the fridge so that the outer chocolate is lovely and hard. The chocolate when cold has a lovely crunch to it and I love the sound of that initial bite, one bitten into the cake smells strongly of sweet chocolate, the cake is very moist which is one reason I like these as I personally think dry cakes aren't very nice. I don't think eating these normally you really taste the vanilla cream but personally I like to bite the chocolate from around the outside and then unroll the cake, well with nutritional info like above you have to enjoy every second of it. I would recommend these but I won't be buying them all the time as there are treats that have much better nutritional values although my daughter does picking them out for her packed lunch so she obviously enjoys them as much as me.

Summary: A lovely chocolate treat
