I love Nutella I don't always have it in the house but I absolutely adore it. Especially on toast. I tend to only buy it when it's on offer as it doesn't last too long. The jar has written on it 'Start your day with Nutella, Enjoy your breakfast with the great unique taste of Nutella. If it says it on the jar you must follow obey.
When I was a child I remember being aloud Nutella only at the weekend and the jars were glasses with cartoons on the side, which you could wash and reuse I think they should bring them back I had quite a few Scooby Doo ones.

Nutella is great not only great on toast or in a sandwich but I use it for decorating cakes as well instead of icing or as a filling instead of jam. It's really easy to spread. If you have a shake away near you or somewhere that does milkshakes with different chocolates ask for a Nutella you will not be disappointed it is amazing, Nutella, ice cream and a splash of milk all blended together is what I imagine heaven would be like. Absolutely delicious.
If you have a nut allergy unfortunately you can't have Nutella as it's made with hazelnuts.
If you're a vegetarian you are in luck you can have this delicious spread.
Free from artificial colours and preservatives the jar is also recycle able.
I would recommend this delicious spread there are cheaper alternatives out there but they will never taste as good as this and if you have never had this why not?
I first got hooked on the sweet stuff when my family took a trip to Israel directly after I finished my treatment for leukemia and was given the all clear. I must have been about eight years old at the time and after living in a ward that smelt permanently of burnt toast and boiled eggs for the guts of what must have added up to at least a year combined breakfast was not one of my favourite things to eat. So when the breakfast buffet had nutella I was delighted that I could eat chocolate for breakfast and found alternatives to the usual British breakfast foods. It was only later when I became a teenager that I could start eating fries and eggs again. I still really hate toast that has any black on it due to the smell I had the Nutella always on crusty bread instead.
In the UK or Northern Ireland in my case nutella can be bought in either 400g or 200g jars though I have seen in europe that you can get ridiculously huge jars maybe up to 1kg though how you would manage to get through this unless you ran a bakery or kitchen I would never know since I struggle to get through the 400g one before it gets hard and loses its spread ability. Ideally I like to get the 200g one as you can reuse the glass container either as a tumbler for drinking out of or a container for storing nic nacs, it is also widely recycled since it is made of glass so it makes me feel good that it is 100% reusable and doesn't end up on a land fill.
The spread itself is a creamy, chocolate brown in colour totally smooth with no liquidly residue. In terms of flavour it is sweet, nutty and tastes like Swiss or German chocolate which is sweet and rich with a very mild taste of nuts. Though it is the nutty taste that some people don't like which drives them to b uy the Cadbury's alternative though I have purchased this before and it sets and goes hard much more quickly than nutella does. Nutella also gives off a sweet nutty smell nothing overpowering though it is really quite mild.
In terms of serving suggestions I like to eat nutella with bananas in sandwiches and crepes largely with a cup of tea as it seems to have similar qualities to peanut butter in that if you eat it with bread it ends up sticking to the roof of your mouth. I have also tried using the end of my jar which has begun to go solid to make rice crispy buns instead of melting down mars bars and I find that this gives very tasty results too. You can also make some nice truffles with the stuff if you drop balls of nutella in dessicated coconut or shredded nuts and put them into the fridge to set. So I find keeping a jar in the cupboard always seems to come in handy.
On average the jars cost between £1.50-£2.50 depending on the size of the jar though I have found that because I but it from Tesco every month or so they give me 20-40p off when I get my clubcard vouchers every so often which is pretty good.
I bought this when... oh who's kidding, I buy this for no reason at all... I just like it.
Nutella comes in a heavy, dense glass jar with a white lid. On the front, the label clearly states the brand name and usually has a picture of a spread of nutella (see the picture). On the back is the nutritional information and ingredients lists (also a lot of spiel telling us how it is healthy for children... not entirely sure about that, but judge for yourself).
The texture of the product is smooth, easily spreadable (though if kept in a cold place it will harden, so keep it somewhere at room temperature or zap it in the microwave for a couple of seconds before using) though satisfyingly thick. It goes onto bread for sandwiches or toast relatively easily with little tearing of the base (which I have had from cheaper chocolate spreads).
The taste.... oh the taste.... it is as it says on the tin (jar), it tastes strongly of hazelnuts and chocolate, I can't describe it better than that. But it is a very creamy mix which is a level above supermarket own brands. I could actually eat this stuff out of the jar with a spoon, I have to actively stop myself from doing so... It goes well with a myriad of products, i.e. toast, bread, biscuits, pancakes - my friend even put it in between the layers of a cake, sort of akin to a chocolate victoria sponge, and another friend heated it up in the microwave, mixed it with some milk and made a makeshift chocolate sauce, so the possibilities are endless!
However, the down side.... Nutella is generally very expensive and though as I have stated, the texture and taste is above the supermarket own brands, usually the others are a much better option just because you are saving half your money (the taste of those is still good anyhow). So to be honest, they fall down majorly in price. It also never seems to last very long, I don't know if that's just me using too much, but even rationing it I seem to need to buy a jar very regularly, so watch out on how much you're intending to buy of this stuff... also, it dries out very easily, if you leave the lid off by accident, the chocolate spread begins to harden and the next time you use it there may be flaky chocolate bits in it that do NOT taste good and add a weird lumpy-ness to the texture.
Overall, a favourite product of mine, the taste and texture are absolutely perfect, but I am let down by their pricing and would almost recommend hedging your bets on a supermarket brand.

I tend to buy my jars of nutella from Costco warehouse where I get a 750gram jar for around £3.55, and as I have three daughters who take after me for their love of chocolate it does tend to only last a fortnight in our house if it makes it that long, the jar I have contains 50 portions for 50 breakfasts.
It is hard to describe the taste of nutella as I have just had a little bit (for reviewing purposes of course) and it is very smooth and you can smell the hazelnuts and cocoa too it really is delicious.
Nutella is a very rich chocolate so although I eat it quite a lot I don't tend to eat a lot in one go as a spoonful is enough and too much could make you feel a little ill. Each 15g portion contains two hazelnuts, some skimmed milk and a little cocoa and so it states on the jar that nutella can be a good option at breakfast time. I have mine on toast and sometimes use it to spread on top of fairy cakes we bake, I have also melted a little bowl in the microwave and served as a dip with chopped and sliced fruit put on cocktails sticks which tastes lovely.

and Nutella is a brand that has been in the usa and canada much longer then the uk.
it's manufactured by the Italian company Ferrero ,the company best known for the Ferrero Rocher chocolate product.
it's about 81 calories a tablespoon,which is not bad considering that a tablespoon of peanut butter is more calories then that.
once you eat it you cant help but go back for another serving, it's definetly not for dieters or kids with ADHD or binge eating disorder.
this stuff is addictive, that's why i call it Crack in a Jar.
Packaging: comes in a glass jar or you can get it in a smaller glass jar then the one in the picture, it's about 2.09£ at the coop but i've seen it for a 1£ something at Tescos
the shape of the jar is more oval then rounded, when you first twist open the cap there is a aluminum gold foil sealed on it, which can easily be taken off using a finger nail.
i supose you get a decent amount of product for the price.

i normally use low 55 calorie wholemeal bread when i eat it.. some people like dipping bananas or apples into the spread.. it can also be used as frosting on a cake or filling in certain baked goods.
a family can easily go through the jar in 2-3 days especially if you dont watch your kids
personally i feel more satisfied with peanut butter then this chocolate spread, but it's still nice to have just to have something different from lunch.

there has acually bean a lawsuit against Ferrero because of there misleading nutritional information and commercials promoting it as a healthy breakfast.
so to whoever, please eat this in moderation if you can, i would say though it's just as addictive ..or maybe a little more then peanut butter...

I was first introduced to Nutella when I was younger; my sister used to buy a jar every now and again. We didn't have it all the time, just occasionally as a special treat. I remember I just used to eat it to copy my sister. However, now that I am older, I occasionally treat myself to a jar. I recently saw a pot in Sainsbury's on offer for just £1 and so I took advantage of the offer.
For those of you who don't know, Nutella is a brand of chocolate spread by Ferrero (you know the guys who make Ferrero Roches - this is the same chocolate spread as that that is in the centre of Ferrero Roches).
Nutella is brown in colour has a very thick and soft smooth texture. It's very well set and whilst its not extremely difficult to get out of the jar, it does take a little effort (I'm sometimes afraid I'm being too heavy handed and the glass will break, however this has never happened). Obviously if you have children, I would recommend the plastic pots just in case.
The Nutella itself is very sweet and chocolaty. You can easily identify the hazelnuts. I find that the chocolate and the hazelnuts compliment each other really well. I find the Nutella to be quite thick and so I always have to have mine with a cup of tea (I can't eat anything chocolatey without a cuppa!) Nutella is very sweet and so it does become very sickly after a while. I find that whilst it's incredibly moreish, two spoonfuls is always enough.
Nutella is obviously a spread, so designed to be spread on things...I.e toast etc. Although I have to say I prefer to eat it straight out of the pot. When eating things such as toast, whilst I do like jam on my toast, I much prefer 'savoury' things such as tomato ketchup and find that Nutella is to sweet to go with toast which I would consider to be something savoury. Although, please don't let this put you off, as I know plenty of people who love it on toast.
Sadly, as nice as it is, Nutella is indeed very fattening!! There's always got to be a downside to nice things hasn't there! Each 100g of Nutella will set you back 530 calories which is a huge amount!
Nutella is available in 200g, 400g and 750g jar. I have noticed that there are plastic jar versions and glass versions although I am not sure if they glass ones are for specific sized pots and the plastic ones for bigger pots. I find that a 200g jar doesn't last very long - maybe a couple of days and that's only when I'm eating it! So for a family, I would suggest a larger jar. Although, if you have never tried it, I would recommend you try a smaller one first.
One thing which I like about the Nutella is the jars - I always choose the 'glass' pot of Nutella as they can be washed and used as glasses. We have many of these small glasses which were previously Nutella pots. I think that they are great and obviously the more pots of Nutella you buy, the more glasses you have. I have noticed that Nutella have changed the design of the glass pot; they have added 'ridges' so that the glass looks more expensive. After finishing the Nutella, I always wash the pots up and use them. I have even started saving them (wrapping them in tissue) so that when I move out I won't have to buy any 'small glasses' which is good, especially as they are cheap and look good.
You can eat Nutella in a lot of ways: on toast, in a sandwhich, on its own, with pancakes etc. It even makes a great topping for cup cakes.
All I all I would definitely recommend Nutella.

What is it?
Nutella is a chocolate and hazelnut spread that is a tad on the expensive side - at £1.90 for 200g, but I often get it on sale at places like Home Bargains.
I am a total foodie - I try to eat healthily, but this goes out the window where Nutella is involved. Although the adverts seem to imply this is a healthy product (look, it has hazelnuts in!), don't be fooled, I just read that there is 200 calories in 2 tbsp of the stuff!
The horrific calorific factor aside, as a spread I find Nutella really versatile, probably just as versatile as jam - I have it on toast, or a few spoonfuls in a croissant (and tada - homemade pain au chocolat), or for an evening snack I heat up some chopped bananas and add a few spoonfuls of Nutella.
It's quite thick and creamy in consistency, and heavy too - and very, very sweet, so it's quite easy to over indulge! I would say it is more chocolatey in taste with a hint of hazelnuts, (I am not a big hazelnut fan so this suits me!!).
I have also discovered recently that nutella makes a great cupcake icing - just add a spoonful of icing sugar per two spoonfuls of nutella and put in a piping bag - found it works best with plain vanilla cupcakes, as it can get a bit sickly on chocolate sponge.
As I'm such a big nutella fan, I have a grand total of six nutella jars that I use as glasses - the new packaging even have swirl prints on to make them look a little nicer - my nan was commenting on how nice my set of glass tumblers were the other day (she'll never know...)!
All in all a great treat, but given the calories and the price, only suitable for a bit of indulgence every now and again!
Until recently I was a complete nutella virgin as we don't tend to have it in our house, but recently in the run up to pancake day, coincidentally, I popped to the shop to buy some as I thought it would make a nice change to my usual syrup or lemon.
Nutella is produced by Ferrero, who most of us will know better if you think of Ferrero Rocher, ring any bells now? I actually didn't know they were the manufacturer until I purchased some, but it does explain the taste. However I will go into tha later!
I have to admit, I was stunned at the price! In Coop, I paid £1.50 for a 400g jar which I thought seemed like a lot, especially considering there were cheaper alternatives right next to it on the shelf! If you're a first tine buyer though, most places also do a 200g jar for £1 too.
It is quite nice to look at as it comes in a see through glass jar with a White screw off lid and 'nutella' in big letters so you won't have trouble finding on in a shelf! you can also see the chocolate through it, so you know when you're running low! The lid s easy to take on and off, but on the first use there is a gold foil under the lid which is quite awkward to remove and needs some persuasion.
The taste of the Nutella is really rich but a lot nicer than what I was expecting. You can really taste the hazelnuts, similarly to a Ferrero Rocher, but they don't overpower the taste of the chocolate itself so it creates a nice balance that is easy to eat... And eat... And keep eating... I have noticed though, that if you have one too many pancakes with Nutella you can end up feeling rather sick (not sure whether this is a result of the pancakes, the Nutella, or a mixture of the two. Nevertheless it's self inflicted so I don't want any sympathy...). It really is tasty though and both the initial flavour and after taste are equally as strong in their flavour, so from this you can tell the quality f the product.
It is worth noting though that it is high in both calories, fat and saturated fat so it is better to eat in moderation. In saying that, you can eat it with a lot of things. It's great on toast, in a sandwich, on pancakes and even in blobs on cornflakes (don't say I'm strange!), although that one is only on occasion ;-) I imagine you can add it to almost any recipe like a chocolate cake mix etc for a bit of extra flavour and it would go really nicely.
I am definitely a fan, and as soon as my old jar ran out I was ready and stocked up for the next lot! 5/5 stars from me... Also, if nothing else, surely it's a fantastic excuse to eat more pancakes, right?
Nutella is a chocolate hazelnut based spread from Ferrero, the esteemed manufacturers of those shiny gold foil wrapped Ferrero Rochers you may have come across; and it is, no doubt my favourite spread of all spreads. It is perfect for everyday use... however this may not be the best for your health. Here are my views on this product, covering various aspects of it:
I won't lie to you, Nutella doesn't exactly come off as a cheap spread- and admittedly, you can get other supermarket branded chocolate hazelnut spreads for much cheaper; however they are of inferior taste and quality (and believe you me, after you have tasted Nutella, you won't be wanting to revert back to other spreads). In normal supermarkets, you can usually get a regular 400g jar of Nutella for between £1.50 and £2; and if you are not the sole user of Nutella and like a bit of it with everything, unfortunately this will not last you for too long. A small 100g jar which will last you no longer than a couple breakfasts' worth of Nutella on toast costs around £1. There are occasional promotions on Nutella products which I would recommend for you to take advantage of when they come; for example at times you can get two 400g jars for £3 which is not such a bad price. The best promotions come at and before Pancake Day, when everybody wants Nutella to spread on their pancakes and don't need it any more before Easter; so the major supermarkets try to clear out as much of their stock as is possible. The Pancake Day promotions on Nutella was superb- a 400g jar for £1 from places such as Tesco! I therefore advise you to take advantage of these rare promotions and stock up!
The taste of Nutella, as I am sure many will agree with me, is far superior to that of many other chocolate spreads. It is rich and nutty whilst at the same time managing to be light and slightly creamy. The taste of hazelnuts in this, though delicious and sufficient, could, I think be made even more delicious and intensified by adding more hazelnuts per jar- though it is to my knowledge that there is quite a lot in it anyway. The chocolatey aroma, though strong, rich and prominent upon taste, is balanced and made not too overwhelming by the addition of the hazelnuts, which is a bonus. In fact, it tastes exactly like a Ferrero Rocher (which I may point out costs much much more for just a tiny amount) but without the crispy chocolate outside and the chopped nuts, which you could probably manage to live without, or if desired, I am sure these could be easily added without spending tonnes.
QUALITY AND PACKAGING:
The hazelnut spread is packaged securely inside a rounded glass jar with a white cap and white labelling, with the normal ingredients, brand and information that you would expect from a decent chocolate spread. To my understanding there is a promotion right now which allows you to enter for a chance to win a hazelnut tree, which is advertised clearly on the jar. The only downside, I find, with the packaging is the gold coloured film protecting the spread at first. Of course this is necessary for you to know whether or not it has been opened previously, but it is very hard to peel off, and I usually have to stab it with a sharp object and then tear it off in order to remove it. The quality of Nutella has always been near immaculate to me- no lumps or anything inside. The texture is smooth and non gritty; though do take note that if left in a slightly warmer temperature, it can turn rather more like a sauce than a spread, so I would advise for this product to be kept in a cool place, for example a kitchen cupboard.
HEALTH BENEFITS AND PROBLEMS:
With all good things, Nutella has a downside; and that is its unhealthiness. Well, you hardly can expect a chocolate spread to be healthy, can you? There are many calories inside a spoonful, that can be consumed in a matter of seconds. Though on the Nutella jar, the company has made a lot of effort to emphasize the fact that it is a hazelnut spread, not a chocolate one, people do tend to underestimate how oily nuts can be, especially if you are planning on consuming a lot. And, admittedly, Nutella can get a little addicting! It is very possible to just sit there with your jar of Nutella and a spoon, digging in as an idle moment of binge eating; this can hardly be good for your health.
WHAT CAN YOU USE NUTELLA FOR:
Nutella, being a chocolate hazelnut spread, has many different ways of which it can be consumed.
- Just eat it out of the jar (I know, I know, this is very unhealthy, but at times irresistable) with a spoon. This will deplete your sources of Nutella by quite a lot, though.
- Eat it spread out on toast, or other baked goods, for example croissants. Nutella, I find, compliments the crunchiness of toast perfectly. Also, there is nothing more delightful than settling down after a long hard day with a lovely Nutella sandwich.
- Bake it in brownies; just add a spoonful or two to your brownie mix (put a little less cocoa powder or chocolate than you normally would) and tada!- You now have delicious hazelnut brownies! I am sure you can make Nutella cookies too, though I have never tried it, by using the recipe for peanut butter cookies, but replacing the peanut butter with Nutella- it would give it an interesting different taste!
- Instead of adding hot chocolate powder to your hot milk, add two generous table spoons' worth of Nutella instead- it makes a delicious hot treat!
- I am sure there are many more uses for Nutella, like mixing it in to your porridge.
Nutella is one of the best manufacturers of chocolate spread available, and, depite the fact that it is rather unhealthy, I have to give it 5 stars for its taste, quality and the multitude of ways of which you can use Nutella.
One of the best inventions I can think of is.......Nutella! Yep, the good old hazelnut/chocolate spread called Nutella. It has to be tasted to be believed. I am probably Nutella's No 1 fan!
This is a spread that you would find in a supermarket amongst all the jams and honeys as the main purpose of Nutella is to spread it on toast, although if you're as big a fan as I am you'll be able to come up with a whole host of ideas as to what to do with it! There are different sized jars but this one above is a 400g jar for £1.50 which is great value. There is also a 200g jar available which is good as the glass jar it comes in can be washed out and used as a glass tumbler afterwards. This one costs 97p. These prices are from Tescos but they are similar in most supermarkets, although if you find it in an Express supermarket it is always more expensive.
This glass jar has a screw on plastic lid and the first time you open it you will need to peel back a gold foil lid in order to get to the Nutella. It is described on the jar as being Hazelnut spread but for anyone who is familiar with the product they will know how chocolatey it tastes as there is a lot of cocoa in the ingredients. If you don't like nutty tasting foods though, you will probably not like this.
The smell hits you as soon as you open it and makes you want to dive straight in! It smells like a chocolate shop! The texture of the spread is very creamy, smooth and luxurious and as you spoon it out of the jar you will see how thick it is. It spreads very easily onto whatever you want to spread it on! The taste is just gorgeous! To me it tastes of smooth, rich chocolate and hazelnuts formulated into a creamy spread. It is very rich and people may find it a bit too rich for them. Not me however, I could eat it straight from the jar (and yes, I have been known to many times!).
You need to store it in the cupboard as opposed to the fridge as it would get too hard if it was refrigerated. It lasts a long time after opening although if you're like me, it won't be lasting long at all.
Writing this is making me crave the taste of it and if I currently had some in the cupboard I would go and have a spoonful of it now, for reviewing purposes only of course! I have to wait until I go food shopping tomorrow to get some.

I buy Nutella as a special treat and it often lasts me a long time! Actually I change that, it doesn't last me that long!
The size of the jars can vary you can get:

When I buy the 200g jar i find it useful to recycle afterwards. I wash out the jar and use it as a tea light holder as it is the perfect size! In the past i have painted the glass and they look great on the patio in the summer!
I usually buy the 400g jar which lasts a few weeks. The prices are £1.90 for a 400g jar and £3.25 for 700g. I try to always buy nutella when it is on special offer as i think £3.25 is a little pricey!

The downside to nutella is of course the nutritional content. You always see these adverts saying that it is great for a kids breakfast on toast as it releases energy steadily. But my concern is the sugar content and the fat content. The advert mentions that in a 15g portion there are 15 whole hazelnuts, skimmed milk and some cocoa.
In 15g there are 80kcals, 8g sugar and 4.7g of Fat, unless you measure the portion size, you will not know if you have 15g or not, and as it tastes so good the answer is you will probably have more!
I enjoy nutella on toast, crumpets, muffins and if im feeling lazy i just put my finger straight in the jar!
It's my belief that only people who lack taste buds don't enjoy nutella. Personally I love the stuff so much I had to stop writing to get myself a jar of it from the kitchen! The only real downside with nutella is that it is definetly not health food, but on days when I'm feeling low I like to screw the diet and reach into the cupboard pull out the white bread and the nutella and make myself a snack (with liberal amounts of Nutella of course). Why do I like it?
I've bein eating nutella since i was pretty young and have always liked it. It's lovely on toast, melted into milk to create a chocolatey milkshake, on pancakes, in cake mix/cake icing or even on its own straight from the jar.

All supermarkets sell nutella, such as Asda and Sainsburys. The price varies from £1 to £3 for a 500g jar.
Would I Reccomend it?
If you are a chocaholic like me, i'd reccomend it to try providing you don't have any nut allergies for obvious reasons. I love it but i would definetly not reccomend it to anyone who can't stop when they've had enough as it has so much sugar and fat. It's one of the things that is nice as a treat but when you've had a bit it's best not to have much more!
What do I rate it?
3 out of 5. Lovely taste, an okay texture and nice smell, however its calorific content lets it down! Let's face it though, something that tastes that good can't be great for your body, can it?

I used to eat and enjoy Nutella spread when I was a child - in those little plastic sachets from sweet shops as well as from the jars which my friends and I used to pass around to scoop out the spread with desert spoons. Then I grew up and became a yoga loving my-body-is-a-temple freak and Nutella became top of my list of banned foods. I thought about my lost love over the years but I managed to resist temptation to go back until recently. Around Shrove Tuesday there were a lot of television advertisments saying how delcious this spread would be on pancakes. Then I went to my local Tesco and they were selling jars of Nutella at a special knockdown price and I couldn't resist.
Nutella comes in big heavy glass jars which contain 400 grams of product. They have a secure screw off lid and underneath this is a keep-fresh seal which is removed upon opening. Product information is written on the label on the jar. This includes full ingredients, nutritional advice, storage information and contact details.
I had a good read of the label before trying the spread as I was still uncertain about eating it since it is obvious that it must contain a lot of fat and sugar. The first thing I noticed was that the brand Ferrerro call this product 'Hazelnut' spread rather than 'Chocolate Spread'. I personally feel that this product is thought of (by consumers) as more of a chocolate spread rather than a nutty one and I feel that the overall taste of the product is that of cocoa. I think the brand call this a 'hazelnut spread' in order to make it sound a bit healthier than it really is! Continuing this theme I was also amused to see that the brand say that a 15g portion of nutella on a 31g slice of wholemeal toast, cereal and fruit juice can be a "good option" as a breakfast. In my view a fruit salad could be an appropriate breakfast too! I think it's a bit silly of Ferrero to try and promote this as a healthy food product. They even emblazon the label with bold red lettering that reads: "Each 15g portion contains 2 hazelnuts, some skimmed milk and a little cocoa". Erm, what about the sugar, vegetable oil and whey that are listed in the ingredients - with the oil and sugar being top most in quantity? It may seem surprising that a 15g portion contains only 80 calories - I would have guessed more - but look closely at the nutritional values and you'll see that the same amount of Nutella provides 4.7g of fat. This might mean you get a lot of energy but you'll have to work it off!
Despite feeling that Ferrero were trying to con me into believing that Nutella is some kind of wonder health food I still went ahead and got stuck into the spread. When I first opened the jar the Nutella has a waxy like surface and seemed quite stiff. However, after you dig into the spread it becomes softer. The spread is a deep chocolate brown colour and has a rich, chocolate-shop kind of aroma. The smell is mouth-watering. The texture of the spread when it is in the mouth is quite thick and gooey. It is a lot like melted chocolate that has just started to cool. When the Nutella encounters warmth - either in the mouth or for instance, spread on a piece of toast, it melts very quickly. The spread has no lumps or bits in it at all - it's super smooth, something that I find wonderful.
Ferrero's serving suggestion is to use Nutella as a spread for your breakfast toast. I have never really wanted to eat chocolate and bread together unless I'm holidaying in Europe where these kind of products are popular. However, I thought I might as well try it. I didn't swamp my toast with Nutella - just put a little scraping of it on the corner. It was so delicious that I've used the Nutella in this way several times since. It really is just like the taste of a sweet pastry pain-au-chocolate. You really don't need very much as it gets quite melty.
I have also used Nutella on pancakes where it melted to create a lovely, sloppy sauce. This is a gorgeous topping and along with a bit of cream makes for a delicious treat. Usually though I just eat a little bit of Nutella when I'm feeling the need for something sweet. I have a terrible sweet tooth and have a really hard battle trying to stay away from chocolate bars. Lately whenever I've wanted chocolate I just have a tiny bit of Nutella instead. It satisfies me and I don't seem to eat as much as I would when opting for the chocolate bars.
I would describe the flavour of Nutella as being like a rich and raw cocoa flavour which is off-set by an intense sugar and mellow milkiness, all of this with a simmering aftertaste of hazelnut. I wouldn't say that the spread tasted 'nutty'. It's not like when you get a sweet with a nut-truffle centre. It's not as nutty as that. The hazelnuts are most obvious after you've swallowed the Nutella and leave you with a slightly woody taste. The combination of flavours in Nutella is simply superb though.
Nutella should be stored at room temperature and NOT in the fridge. I have noticed that if you leave scrapings of spread around the top of the jar they can start to crystalise slightly so I now try and make sure the spread is all pushed down to the bottom of the jar to minimise this effect.
Despite the way I feel about the so-called healthiness of this food stuff I have to say that it's totally delicious and addictive and I can see it being part of my food shopping for a long time to come. I can't fault the product, the way it tastes or how it feels but I do feel the brand should be a bit more honest about the fat and sugar content in it.

Nutella dates back to the 1940's when Cocoa was rationed during World War II. A pastry maker called Pietro Ferrero used hazelnuts to create the delicious chocolate spread because there were plenty of them available in the Piedmont region of Italy.

According to the Nutella website, one jar is sold every 2.5 seconds so it's popular stuff. There is even a World Nutella Day on February 5th which began in 2007. This scrumptious spread can be enjoyed alone, used on toast or sandwiches, used in baking and you can even dip fruit into it. I remember when I was in school, the excitement of finding Nutella sandwiches in my packed lunch box. In fact, they were the only sandwiches which I didn't sneak into the bin. It is versatile and can tempt children into eating fruit and can make serving breakfast to the family into a less stressful experience.
Nutella's adverts boasts that for every 15 grams that your child eats, they will be provided with the slow release energy of two whole hazelnuts, skimmed milk and cocoa. The two whole hazelnuts part always makes me laugh as it isn't that impressive. Hazelnuts are tiny after all. The more impressive part is the fact that it releases energy slowly meaning you won't slack or have a dip in energy while in work and it will keep your children going under break time in school.
The spread comes in a heavy clear glass jar with a white screw top lid and you can see the chocolate spread inside. If stored in the fridge, it can become hard and difficult to spread so I keep mine in a dry, dark cupboard. The jars come in three different sizes which include 200 grams, 400 grams and 750 grams.
It costs around £1.50 for 200 grams of Nutella and the price rises steadily as the size of the jar increases. This product can be bought from most supermarkets and corner shops as well as from online websites. Each 15 grams serving contains about 80 calories and 1 gram of protein. The small amount also contains 8.4 grams of carbohydrates and 4.7 grams of fat.
Obviously a snack as delicious as this is going to be high in both sugar and fat and therefore needs to be eaten in moderation. However as Nutella contains Lecithin, which is a soy extract high in protein, calcium and iron, dieticians have found that it can work towards protecting and strengthening your bones. Dieticians have also found that it gives continued boosts of energy and help you to feel fuller for longer. This tantalizingly sweet spread also actually contains less calories than most jams and don't forget that the calcium from the skimmed milk will also help to strengthen your bones and teeth.
Present in the cocoa is also antioxidants which work towards balancing blood pressure and can even reduce blood clotting. The hazelnuts that are crushed into the mixture are also the perfect source of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats which are good for the heart. The little nuts also contain Vitamin E which boosts the immune system meaning you can fight off infections and colds more easily. Not only that, but they are also packed full of B vitamins which enable a better energy production and even improve you mood. And they are a source of potassium, calcium and magnesium which maintains a healthy blood pressure. There the guilt is gone!
Whoever knew Nutella was so good for you? Obviously, this only counts when eating in moderation and a handful of hazelnuts with a glass of skimmed milk would probably be healthier and have the same benefits but it won't taste as good! You're not going to reap the rewards if you scoff the whole lot but it's good to know that all those benefits are included in a breakfast which your children are happy to eat. And it makes it an almost guilt free pleasure for you as well.
The only negative with this is that it is incredibly moreish. One spoonful is never enough and I am not proud to admit that I have eaten a whole jar in one sitting. Never again though, as my teeth hurt so badly that I thought they were going to fall out! As long as you have the will power to stop and stick to the guided amount, your teeth will be fine.
All in all, a delicious hazelnut and chocolate spread that can be served as part of a balanced fruit in combination with fruit and whole meal bread and that has a whole host of benefits that you had never imagined. A fairly guilt free option that will leave you feeling fuller for longer and give you continued bursts of energy.
