Advantages: Good value, delicious chocolate
Disadvantages: Not good for your health
Whenever I go to the supermarket and am looking for a nice bar of chocolate to buy, Galaxy is one of the few bars of which tempt me the most. I must say that it has been one of my favourite chocolate brands ever since I discovered it, and when I feel like a real treat I go and pick a bar up. Galaxy is one of those brands which allows you to enjoy indulgent chocolate without having to pay too much, unlike some brands of chocolate out there which claim to be 'premium' and 'gourmet'.
Though Galaxy would not really fit into the 'Value' section of the chocolate market, for its delicious taste it certainly is at a reasonable price. For an 125g bar of Galaxy Smooth Milk Chocolate, you would expect to pay a little over a pound. However, I have noticed that a lot of the time, supermarkets seem to be holding promotions for these bars so that you can obtain an 125g bar for only £1.00, not a high price to pay for a bar of good quality chocolate at all. Galaxy bars also come in a range of different sizes, for example larger more to share packs and multipacks of mini Galaxy bars. I usually tend to buy the 125g size because it is the most convenient size for me and because of the frequent £1 promotions, it is the best value of money out of the lot often. Though it does seem like quite a big bar of chocolate, I do find that it disappears pretty soon!
The Galaxy label has also been extending its range, for example, I have seen some Galaxy cake bars lying around, even though I have never tried them. I have tried out the Galaxy hot chocolate, which is nice but not as delicious as the actual chocolate. There have also been many flavours of Galaxy developed, for example the Caramel variety. My favourite flavour must be the Galaxy Cookie Crumble, as it adds a really nice crunch to your normal bar of Galaxy, and Galaxy really does a good job with it.
An important aspect that Mars (the company that creates Galaxy chocolate bars) prides itself in is the shape of the actual chocolate. Each chunk is slightly curved and smooth; the shape gives a feeling of sophistication. The shape is said to affect the actual taste and feel of the chocolate, and I am not sure whether or not it is just a psychological thing, but to me, because of the unique shape, Galaxy has always had something different from your typical bar of chocolate.
The taste is smooth, creamy and delicious, exactly what a good bar of chocolate should be like. It is milky and just sweet enough (though sometimes if I eat too much I find that it is slightly too sugary and sickly... but after all, this is chocolate we are talking about here). There is a distinct taste to it that is hard to explain, but easy to recognise. If someone put a chunk of galaxy in my mouth whilst I was blindfolded, I could recognise the taste immediately.
Obviously, the most popular way of enjoying Galaxy is to simply take it out of its wrapper and snap off chunks to eat. However, I have found that Galaxy is also a nice chocolate brand to bake with. For example, you can cut the chocolate into smaller chunks and then bake them into cookies. Also, adding chunks into your brownies can give them a really decadent touch.
This is an example of a chocolate that you do not have to pay so much for, whilst still getting something of very good quality and taste. For that reason, I would give it 5 out of 5 dooyoo stars.
Summary: Indulgent chocolate which is not too expensive!
