“ Brand: Mars / Type: Caramel „
As many of my regular review readers will know, I am a huge fan of Galaxy chocolate, and when Mars released the Galaxy Mistletoe kisses bar, I was quite excited to try it.
The Mistletoe kisses bar is made from thick Galaxy milk chocolate, and has a soft, gooey centre made from mousse and caramel. The kisses bar does not follow the ordinary shape of a standard chocolate bar, instead it looks almost elegant with a sloped design to each piece that makes up the bar. There is three pieces altogether, each providing a creamy, gooey bite of caramel and mousse goodness.
The bar comes in a shiny golden wrapper, but it also has some snow flakes and some mistletoe on it. The Galaxy symbol is printed on the wrapper, as is the words Mistletoe Kisses in a light brown color. The back of the wrapper gives us the usual in the way of nutrition information and some company information too.
You can usually get these near to christmas, starting in November in most supermarkets, newsagents and good stores that sell chocolate. They usually cost around 60p and it is a shame they do not sell them year round, as they really are great.
I recommend these to anyone who likes chocolate, mousse and caramel, but as it is full of fat, calories and sugar, please enjoy this as an occasional treat as part of a balanced diet (I sound like an advert for change for life!!)
In the interests of market research I am having to force yet another chocolate bar down - this is how I am telling myself anyway. The bar comes in a pretty wrapper in the normal Galaxy chocolate colours with a picture of the product and a little piece of mistletoe above the wording. The back has all the necessary nutritional information, the 42g bar contains 209 calories and 11.5g of fat.
The bar itself comes in 3 separate pieces that are about 1" long and are slightly raised in the centre with a mistletoe picture to one side. The galaxy chocolate is as ever thick and creamy with a smooth consistency. It appears to caramel in the middle on one half and a mousse in the other. The caramel half just tastes like a galaxy caramel bar with just the right amount of chocolate to caramel ratio. I found the mousse side though to be a bit too thick and sticky.
I have had two pieces now and I'm not sure I can manage the third. It is altogether a bit of a sickly gooey concoction that on first taste is pleasant, second acceptable but third past the point of being nice. I have of course forced the last piece down now but more because I wouldn't waste it, than because it's pleasant to eat.
All in all a letdown, I definitely wouldn't buy one of these again, I'd go for the plain galaxy chocolate any day.
I bought my bar of Galaxy Mistletoe Kisses at my local independent shop and paid 60p for the 42g bar. This is Galaxy's Christmas 'bandwagon' bar and I would not normally fall for such marketing but I was in the mood for some caramel and chocolate and this fit the bill.
The bar contains three Galaxy chocolate pieces and promises an 'indulgent mousse and caramel centre. At 209 calories and around 12-13g of fat this is very indulgent - something which I really need to avoid! Fat.
My bar had a best before date of around 4 months ahead (from the date I bought it)
Biting into each chunk of a shallow peak shaped piece of Galaxy chocolate I am met with oozing caramel and a lovely smooth mousse filling. This really did live up to my expectation of Galaxy, being one of my favourite chocolates, with the added bonus of two delicious filling.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable chocolate bar which satisfied my craving for chocolate and caramel. I would recommend this.
I have since my purchase seen this bar available in Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's so pick one up when you are next shopping. Yum.
I am beginnning to feel a little bit Christmassy, it's happpening slowly but I am starting to feel slight twinges of excitement and anticipation. I think that must be the reason that while I was picking up a couple of bits from Sommerfield that I noticed a big stand of these chocolate bars. They had put them right by the till so while I was waiting in the queue I found myself becoming more and more tempted to try one of these little bars. It's a very clever marketing technique and it certainly worked on me as I had no intention of buying any chocolate beforehand.
A bar cost 60p which certainly isn't cheap but choclate bars in general seem to have greatly increased in price in the last couple of years. Anyway later on, I was having a quick ten minutes on the computer, checking my emails and I realised my girls were playing nicely and the house was relatively peaceful. Perfect timing for a cheeky chocolate indulgence.
The bar comes in a long finger shape and is made up of three kind of triangular chunks. Now it was the description on the packet that really won me over on this bar, it was said to consist of 'Galaxy chocolate pieces with an indulgent mousse and caramel centre' ...now how good does that sound??? I was expecting really great things, and when I took a bite into the first chunk my tastebuds were a tingling.
The galaxy chocolate was creamy and gorgeous and the caramel was rich and delicious. Only slight disappointment for me was that I couldn't really taste the mousse, the other flavours took over. When I found the mousse I'm not really sure I would describe it as such,, I was expecting something a lot lighter.
So although this was lovely, for me I would enjoy a Galazy caramel just as much, there was just wasn't enough extra for me to make this bar stand out as different.
I had a bit of a chocolate craving earlier so bought a bar of Lindt (see earlier review!) and these Misteltoe Kisses. Misteltoe Kisses are one of my favourites. My other half bought me some of these last year and I immediately assumed I wouldnt like them but I was plesantly suprised.
These are available in the confectionary aisle and I got mine from our local Sainsburys. They cost around 50p. The wrapper is easily recognisable as Galaxy as it is a deep brown in colour. The wrapping is made to have a christmas feel with misteltoe and what looks like snow. Inside the wrapper there are 3 chocolates, each about an inch and a half in length. They are sort of pyramids in shape with their highest point being about an inch tall. Inside the galaxy chocolate there is chocolate mousse and caramel.
Biting into the chocolate I immediately noticed how smooth and soft it was, the mousse and caramel centre meant my teeth sunk into it nicely and it was not hard to bite. The chocolate coating was thick and tasted like the usual high standard of galaxy chocolate, thick, creamy and smooth. The mousse makes up the majority of the centre, this again is thick and has a lovely consistency and tastes of creamy chocolate. The caramel is quite thick and is similar to that in other galaxy products, it is thick, sweet and quite dark in colour. The combination of the three ingredients taste really nice. The main flavour you can taste is chocolate, but this is complemented by the caramel. The different textures make this chocolate special and different to others on the market.
The bar weighs 42g but the only nutritional info available is for 100g. Per 100g this treat contains 498 calories and 27.3g fat. If you halve this then I am actually quite suprised that this doesnt contain more fat.
I really like these chocolates as they are different to anything else on the market. I like the fact that they are individual chocolates rather than a bar which makes it feel a bit more luxurious. My favourite thing about this chocolate is the texture and the mousse as mousse is not common in chocolate bars. I would highly recommend these kisses as they are lovely (men-buy them for your partners!)
This chocolate treat is made by the well known brand Galaxy who makes extremely creamy and delicious chocolate that simply melts in your mouth. This bar was originally released in 2007 and I have since seen it appear in shops at the festive time of year. The bar itself costs approx 50-60p but I got 2 for £1.00 which were on offer at my local Co-Op. You can probably buy these from other local shops and other good supermarkets as well.
The bar itself comes in a brown and white wrapper and looks quite festive with stars and mistletoe which are shown on the front of the bar. It also shows a small picture of what the inside of the chocolate looks like. On the front of the wrapper it also states that you get three galaxy chocolate pieces with an indulgent mousse and caramel centre.
When opening the plastic wrapper which just simply tears open you can smell the slight smell of creamy chocolate. The pieces itself are quite large in size and are a bit of a strange shape with a curved bit in the middle. It also has a mistletoe pattern embossed on one side of the chocolate pieces as well.
When biting into the chocolate piece my teeth sank straight through the chocolate into the caramel. The chocolate piece is half mousse and half caramel but depending on which side you bite into depends on whether you get the mousse or the caramel first. The caramel is sweet and runny and tastes divine with the creamy, smooth chocolate. The mousse centre is chocolate flavoured and is sweet but smooth, soft fluffy when you bite into it.
When eating this all together in my mouth it does taste extremely nice but is also very sweet and I imagine can get very sickly if you eat more than 3 pieces of this. It did leave a sweet, chocolatey after-taste in my mouth and was more of the mousse taste that anything else.
I love galaxy chocolate anyway and did enjoy this yummy festive treat. I did how-ever think it was quite sickly and would probably prefer something such as a Galaxy caramel instead of this, but it is nice to have a change and seeing as these are only around for about 2 months each year it's worth having one now and again as a sweet treat.
(Review also on ciao)
Christmas must be on the way as Galaxy have launched a now chocolate bar based on Christmas in their new Mistletoe Kisses. Coming in a mainly brown wrapper with a Christmas theme with snow and mistletoe. The bar comes in 3 separate pieces that promises an "indulgent mousse and caramel centre" though to be honest it actually sounds quite sickly. The bar costs a rather premium price of around 50-60p for a 42g bar, though it's likely going to be a short lived bar that will die soon after Christmas.
So on to eating it, as with all Galaxy it's manufactured by Mars the chocolate giant, though Galaxy chocolate is regarded a premium style of chocolate. Each piece is about 2 inches long with a weird shape the them that looks a bit like a 3D triangle with a clever little mistletoe design on one side. Though the shape and style is rather unique it's hard to think of it as being anything other than a reason for them to charge more for the product than they would if it was a standard bar. The bars are broken in to two sides, one has a thick creamy mousse in the centre that tastes really rich the other is the same sort of caramel used in Mars' main bars. The mistletoe section of the bar has the mousse the other seems to have the caramel in. As is often the problem with these new concepts in chocolate the bar doesn't have much real appeal and it tastes too rich in the mousse section whilst the caramel is incredibly poor quality and doesn't compare to the one that Cadbury's use. The chocolate as is nice on the outside, as Galaxy usually is, but the centre doesn't really do it any favours.
Nutritional information (per 42g bar)
The bar contains Milk, Whey Powder and added salt. Though not suitable for vegans it is suitable for vegetarians.
Overall these won't be one I'll be buying again as they were overly rich and failed to really live up to their promise of being "indulgent" more, over priced and rather over the top. The design was clever and attractive and helped to make it all seem more premium and special though sadly the taste is off putting and not something that sat well with me. Like an LG phone, it's all style over substance and sadly this is one of the problems with the world today, we want things that taste nice not look pretty.
Around this time of year all companies seem to bring out their own special christmas range. Galaxy have been no different. This came out a few years ago but until now it never interested me. I am not much of a breakfast eater so in the shop this morning I picked up two chocolate bars this being one of them.
This is a foil shiny cream and chocolate coloured packet that has a picture of mistletoe on the top and a picture of the chocolate that is inside. It tells you on the back the contents in the pack and that it is chocolate with a mousse and caramel centre. It also has the nutritional value on the back. Of course like any other chocolate this is not good for you if consumed too much but one bar now and again is not going to hurt.
Inside the pack is 3 pieces of chocolate that is slightly raised in the centre and has two flat peices eitherside. On one of the flat pieces is a raised chocolate picture of the mistletoe. On biting the chocolate I got the mousse side first, this was quite nice and complemented the chocolate very well. You could not feel the texture of the mousse but could definately taste the chocolaty taste of it. Then the other half had caramel. This I was not too keen on the taste of the caramel was very strong and overpowering. I thought this may have been because I had never tried them before I wasn't quite expecting it. I tried another of the chocolates and found the same again the one half was very nice but the caramel side was too much for me. I have not eaten the third piece and will probably put it in the bin to be honest. I do hope I am not loosing my sweet tooth. The galaxy chocolate however can not be faulted, it is a nice creamy textured chocolate which is smooth and melts in your mouth.
I was not keen on this because I thought it was too sweet on the one half although I loved the mousse half alot. If you have a sweet tooth and like caramel than do try I think you will like it alot. The packaging is very eye catching and looks christmasy it could really remind you that christmas is on the way. The name of the chocolate is great for a woman anyway, we all long for that special moment at christmas and this will make a woman feel like she is getting the short burst of happiness that she wants as long as you have a very sweet tooth.
I love chocolate and Galaxy is definately a brand that I know that I can always trust to deliver the goods. Here we have a long, slim, brown and silver shiny wrapper, which has the distinctive Galaxy name on the front, along with the Mistletoe Kisses name. A picture is included too which is always good on a food product. Inside you get three chocolates with a very individual shape, almost flat at one end becoming bigger so that you know there is something inside. This shape does make it easy to pick up and hold as you really do need to eat it in at least two bites. These are bigger than the average chocolate. The colour and texture is good as you would expect from Galaxy. Then you take a bite and you bite into the most gorgeous caramel centre. Soft, with just the right amount of gooeyness, that makes this irrisistable. There are three of these 'kisses' in each packet but believe me they will be gone in a flash. A bit of a novelty for Christmas time perhaps but delicious just the same.
Both this last christmas and the one before, this chocolate bar piqued my interest. With it's festive wrapping and mysterious name (you may or may not be surprised that this bar contains no mistletoe whatsoever - nor does it contain any lipstick!) I couldn't help but pick it up, despite it being priced higher than most chocolate bars (~60p at my local shop).
Thankfully however, Galaxy Mistletoe Kisses are very much worth it. Split into three sections, this bar is kind of shaped like a toblerone, except more...curvy. It's hard to explain. Imagine three chocolate slopes in a row.
Biting into the first section, you discover that underneath the thick chocolate exterior is a delicious, rich, creamy truffle-style filling.
This is a lovely surprise for me, because this kind of rich high-quality filling is rarely found in chocolate bars off the shelf. No, normally I would have to shell out for a full box of chocolates to get this kind of experience!
The taste here is wonderful - all of the creaminess of Galaxy chocolate on the outside, and a really chocolatey filling. Mmmmm. If I could eat these every day... I think I probably would!!
It pains me to say that this is not perfect. For a start, for such tasty-truffliness, you have to sacrifice something, and in this case, it's the actual amount of chocolate in the pack. Although the bar looks substantially bigger than your average chocolate bar, this is deceptive due to it's shape. Which is a little disappointing. Still, it IS a very rich tasting bar, and I'm not sure I could eat much more than the amount in the wrapper.
So, this is less of a chocolate bar - more like three luxurious chocolate truffles, connected together LIKE a chocolate bar. If you see these on the shelf, I recommend you pick one up immediately!
Galaxy Mistletoe kisses appear when the weather is getting chillier and the children are getting excited avbout a certain visitor...my favourite time of the year, Christmas.
Walking into your local newsagents, viewing all the novelty chocolates on there yearly outings, this may catch your eye as looking a little bit, well, classier than the others. With just a sprig of mistletoe adorning the usual Galaxy style packaging, they seem to be missing the elves, Santas and reindeers that everything else seems to be sprouting. So, like me, you may decide to puchase one.
Opening it up, the chocolate is split into 3 separate 'kisses', small bitesize chunks, in an unusual triangle shape. Biting into one, the usual gorgeous Galaxy chocolate hits your tongue first, followed by a rich truffle. But thats not all! As you bite into the rest of the triangle, expecting more of the lovely truffle, you encouter a surprise in the form of caramel! Lovely, silky and smooth, this completely perfect caramel completes what is a gorgeous chocolate!
My fave. Chocolate is Lindor, but this was not very far behind. Although you only get three peaces in a pack, each peace is melt in the mouth heaven. You may get confused thinking these are Just like galaxy caramel, it's not. Misletoe kisses have a very tasty mousse as well as caramel. This combination is truly heavenly and not to be missed. These don't look much like mistletoe, but hey who cares when there is chocolate as good as this inside. These may be very tasty but on bar - 42 grams - contains 209 kcals., which is a massive 10 percent of your Guidline Dailey Allowence. But as long as you only have this wonderful chocolate bar as a treat, there should not be any problem. This are quite expensive at around 60 Pence per bar but you pay for what you get. As I said before, this is perfect for a treat.
Every year in the run up to Christmas you see dozens and dozens of different chocolate treats just begging to be bought as Christmas presents. One such chocolate bar from Galaxy has the honour of being my pick for best confectionery stocking filler, that chocolate bar is the gorgeous Galaxy Mistletoe Kisses bar which is one of the latest in a long line of huge selling Galaxy Chocolate Bars which is no suprise really given the taste as I will of course delve into in more detail later in this review.
So let me tell you about this particular chocolate bar. The Mistletoe Kisses bar is made up of three small segments, inside these segments is the gorgeous truffle and a gooey kind of caramel which is just like Galaxy Caramel of course. The difference between this bar and the Galaxy caramel though is the gorgeous almost chocolate mousse filling which is so rich and creamy and so moorish too. Don't eat it too quickly though as it could be a little sickly like that. Let your tastebuds savour the creamy centre and the delightful Galaxy chocolate,
**Where can I pick one up?**
As this bar is of course Galaxy you will be able to buy these in just about anywhere that sells a variety of chocolates, eg supermarkets, newsagents and you will often find these on their own in their own box laid out near the counter as a promotion as you will most probably find Wispas nowadays. You can excpect to pay around 55p for one of these bars and that is around what you would normally pay for a standard sized chocolate bar at the moment.
This bar gives you 202 calories for the 42g bar which is around about what you should expect for a bar of this standard size which though not that bad doesnt mean you should have many of these bars at a time as you will put on weight and will possibly puke up most of it.
Calories ....... 70 kcal
The Above stats are individual values are for each of the three segments of Galaxy Mistletoe Kisses.
Sugar, cocoa , glucose syrup, skimmed milk powder, vegetable fat, soya lecithin, salt, flavourings.
I would recommend Galaxy Mistletoe Kisses as a great stockings gift and also as a snack, I love Galaxy chocolate and have now found a new favourite Galaxy. Delightful chocolate that will sell a huge amount over the Christmas period I'm sure of that and I'm sure well into next year and beyond.
Woo Hoo something for christmas has finally entered the shops... Oooooh I am sooo excited, time to get into the christmas spirit, ahem maybe even the christmas tunes!! Ok back to the chocolate;
The packaging - It is similar to all other galaxy packaging, but this one has a christmas touch with mistletoe on the front of it.
The chocolate - It comes in 3 small bits, which look stylish (can chocolate be stylish?). They are filled with yummy truffle and a gooey kind of caramel (which is what won me over, I love galaxy caramel!) The bars are very rich which can be a good thing so you keep the rest for later!! But I found it was absolutely lovely and so tasty. The truffle bit is the little bit extra that makes it taste different to their galaxy caramel.
There is more than enough in this packet to eat, can sometimes be a bit sickly. And if you are kind enough it is easy enough to share with others.
I was going to put all the nutritional information on here but unfortunately I am finding it way to small to read all of it but I did manage to work out the calories which are; 209 kcals per 42g bar which is a lot less calories than other chocolate bars. So the only thing I could think would be better is having them out all year round! yum yum but that might wear the novelty off them!!
You can tell christmas is coming (even if it is from a far off distance) when this bar appears in shops.
i bought my first galaxy misletoe kisses bar today and was surprised by how different it was from galaxys other chocolate bars!
The bar was split up into 3 sections, or three 'kisses', and each kiss was half filled with gooey caramel and half filled with chocolate mousse. Each section was then coated in a layer of galaxy chocolate to finish it. I have to say that although the whole idea of it was very appealing, it seemed a little too rich for a lunchtime snack and I personally wasn't sure that the mousse and caramel went that well together.
The packaging is very eye-catching, metallic gold and bronze with christmas imagery thats enticing and reminds everyone ofchristmas, however, don't be too fooled. Don't get me wrong, the bar is NICE but it's a little sickly and I'd sooner go for one of galaxys more simple bars instead.
