Hershey's Cookies n Chocolate Bar
Advantages: Nice cookie pieces, good texture
Disadvantages: Chocolate isn't milky, and it is very sweet.
I have visited a couple of good independent sweetshops recently, both of which stock a good range of American and other imported chocolate bars and sweets. I like to try different confectionary so I decided to buy a few to sample - not all at once I may add! My eyes lit up when I saw an Hershey brand chocolate bar called "Cookies"n"chocolate", as it seems to be made from two of my favourite things! It is a milk chocolate bar dotted with chocolate cookie chips.
Like all imported bars, this costs more than most chocolates - I paid £1.15 for 40g. I have also paid around the same price, for a different variety, in branches of the Mr Timms Old Fashioned Sweetshop chain. I have since seen other Hershey bars in my local Londis, where they cost only 75p for the same size so it is worth shopping around. It is also available from various online suppliers, but I do not have personal experience of any of those stockists.
These bars are thin and wide, like most of the Hershey brand ones. I think chunkier bas are more satisfying, espcecially if they are flavoured as you get more filling in each bite, but I can live with thinner ones. The chocolate is marked out in squares but you can't actually use the lines to break the bar up. If you try to, it just falls apart. Apart from that it looks appetising, with a strongly cocoa butter like smell which is lovely.
For those of you that don't know, Hersheys are are a major sweet manufacturer in the U.S.A. They produce lots of different chocolate bars, some under the Reese branding. I have tried quite a few now, and they mostly don't live up to my expectations for one reason - the chocolate is different from what we are used to here. I like my milk chocolate to be milky tasting, but I find that American chocolate isn't. This Hershey bar is no different. The chocolate is bland and sweet, without that kind of delicious creaminess you get in a Galaxy or Dairy Milk. I find it quite sickly after having ate a few pieces. This is a shame because I really like the cookie pieces. They taste like the biscuits that are used to make Oreos, rich and chocolatey. They are crispy but not hard. There is plenty of them, well distributed throughout. The contrasting textures of the biscuit pieces and the smooth, soft chocolate is lovely. I just don't find the chocolate itself at all moreish!
My bar does not come a nutrition table, although I noticed that it contains hydrogenated palm oil amongst the ingredients. This, and the fact is obviously made of chocolate and sugar, makes me suspect it is not one of the lowest fat chocolate bars around. I like to have chocolate as an occasional basis as a treat, so I want it to taste really good when I do indulge. This bar is too sickly and not chocolatey enough in flavour to me. I wouldn't recommend it to lovers of really milky chocolate, but if you like a sweeter kind, this may appeal to you. The cookie pieces are nice at least!
Summary: A bar for lovers of sweet non-milky chocolate
