Advantages: Delicious taste and texture, great for peanut lovers, better than Snickers, I got a bargain
Disadvantages: Not widely available usually, can be expensive, unhealthy
- Why I Bought -
I feel compelled to tell you all about the Reese's Nutrageous chocolate bar I have just eaten because it was the best chocolate bar I have had in a while. I bought two of these bars this morning when I saw they were on offer in Sainsbury's for just 29p.
- The Brand -
Reese's is actually owned by the big American chocolate manufacturer The Hershey Company. Reese's is most famous for making Peanut Butter Cups and Reese's Pieces. Their products generally are made from peanuts, caramel and chocolate.
- The Packaging -
This chocolate bar comes in the usual Reese's orange packaging. It is bright and eye catching which I'm sure helps them sell these bars. Both the Reese's and Hershey brands are displayed. The bar is described as 'Crunchy peanuts, peanut butter, creamy caramel and chocolate flavoured coating'. It weighs 51g.
- The Ingredients -
The ingredients are listed on the back of the packet. I won't list all the ingredients but obviously this is not a healthy item. The main ingredients are chocolate, peanuts, peanut butter and caramel as the description suggests. It also contains copious amounts of sugar, salt, emulsifiers and flavourings. I will list the E numbers as some people are allergic or try to avoid certain ones (E322, E304, E310, E330, E471). This bar has 260 calories, 16g of fat (5g saturated) and 22g of sugar.
- The Taste -
The chocolate bar consists of a caramel centre surrounded by peanut butter and peanuts which is then covered with a milk chocolate coating. The chocolate and caramel give this chocolate bar a lovely sweet flavour which works very well with the saltiness of the peanut butter and peanuts. The contrast of the soft caramel and peanut butter with the crunchy peanuts is amazing! The layer of chocolate is the perfect thickness as it is quite thin and doesn't detract from the flavours inside but does add a nice sweetness. It really is a delicious chocolate bar. It isn't too sweet, too soft, too chewy or too crunchy but has all these elements spot on. It is the size of a typical chocolate bar. I can eat one without feeling sick but I wouldn't go for a second. I would liken it to a Snickers bar but I think it is much nicer. Obviously this won't be for you if you dislike nuts or are allergic to them.
- Price and Availability -
I didn't think these chocolate bars were widely available in England. A friend of mine used to bring me Peanut Butter Cups back from his trips to America as they were hard to find here. I was surprised to see these bars in a Sainsbury's superstore and delighted to see that they were only 29p. According to the label the usual price is 59p which is a fairly standard price for a chocolate bar these days. I believe they are also available in Waitrose for 62p. You can order them online from Amazon and specialist chocolate websites but I find they are usually really over priced and you end up paying over £1 per bar.
- Would I Recommend? -
I would definitely recommend trying this chocolate bar especially if you are a fan of peanuts and peanut butter. It really is delicious and would be a welcome addition to the usual chocolate bars we get in this country.
Summary: Delicious peanut butter, peanuts and caramel chocolate bar
