Sometimes when I am rushing about in a morning I do not have time to make and eat a proper breakfast. As such I tend to buy some cereal bars so that I can grab one on my way to work. The cereal bar I am reviewing today is the coco rocks bar which is a spin off from the popular coco pops cereal.
The bar is made by Kellogs and comes in a pack of six for around £1.70. They can often be on offer at the supermarkets for a pound a box so it is certainly worth keeping your eyes open for these as it makes the price more attractive. Each cereal bar come packed in foil packaging. On this particular bar we have the Kellogs logo as well as the coco pops coco rocks name. There is also a picture of coco the monkey smiling as chunks of chocolate and coco rocks rain from the sky. I would say that the fact that there is a cartoon monkey on the pack would make the product appeal to children.
When you open the pack you are faced with a 20g rectangular cereal bar. As you look at it you can see the chocolate coco rocks which are bound together with a chocolate drizzle. There are chocolate chunks on the top and more chocolate drizzle so I am sure that if you are a chocolate fan you will quite enjoy this bar!
Taste wise the cereal bar is actually really pleasant in my opinion. The rocks are crunchy yet the drizzle makes it somewhat chewy too. As you get the odd chocolate chunk in there too it does make a nice snack for someone who enjoys chocolate like I do.
Although I enjoy the taste and texture of these bars I have to say they go nowhere near filling me up for breakfast and I can find that I want something else almost immediately after eating it. My son also enjoys these cereal bars but prefers it as a snack rather than a breakfast and I have to say I agree. I would recommend these only as a quick chocolatey snack rather that a meal replacement.
Per 20g bar:
Thank you for reading my review!
Yum alert! Yum alert! If you are a chocoholic looking for a low calorie kick, this is the perfect treat for you. In the name of good reviewing technique, I am actually eating one as I type, so if the review ends abruptly, it may be due to bits of choc jamming my keyboard.
Coco Rocks bars come in a box of 6 for £1.50, which is reasonable value compared to the very similar Rice Krispie squares bars, which are the same price for only 4 bars.
The box is blue and has a large picture of the product on the front, as well as a picture of the well known Coco monkey mascot. The nutritional info is on the front and is as follows per 20g bar:
In my opinion this is really good, and would make an excellent alternative to a chocolate bar for people watching their weight. not many treats as sweet and chocolatey as this one are as low calorie.
The back of the box has some product information in english and Spanish, explaining that the product is a cereal bar containing chocolate chips, with a light and crispy texture.
The bars themselves are individually wrapped, making the excellent for lunchboxes and for carrying on the go. Each wrapper shows the ingredients and product information.
Each bar is comprised of coco rocks, which are a bit like coco pops, only harder, larger and crunchier. The rocks are bound together with marshmallow, and have yummy chocolate chips interspersed throughout, to give the eater lots of little chocolate "hits" as they eat. There is a drizzling of chocolate on the top of each bar. They are very sweet and chocolatey, with a really nice taste and texture that will please kids and adults alike. The mallow makes them chewy, but the cereal is crunchy, so there is a good contrast.
The bars are fortified with vitamins, which is an added bonus, and something you don't get with your average chocolate bar! The bars contain Niacin, Iron, B6, B2, B1, Folic acid and B12. I think the inclusion of iron is a very good thing, because I'm sure most people don't get enough iron in their diet, but the pack doesn't say how much Iron is included.
Coco rocks bars are suitable as a breakfast item, although I would eat something else as well because they are not all that filling. They are good as a snack between meals, or to satisfy a craving. they could be used as a light treat after a meal, or part of a lunch.
Coco rocks bars have everything going for them- so get 5 stars from me!
These are totally yummy and can be incorporated into my healthy eating plan just now. Unlike other Cereal Bars, thaat can seem bland and boring, there are so tasty and only have 82 calories per 20g bar.
The packaging for these is alright and kind of bright. It is a blue cardboard box. Not thin cardboard either, and you get to the bars by ripping the bit from the top down and the front comes away a bit and lets you in. There is the Coco Pops Monkey mascot on the front and a picture of the Cereal Bar. You get 6 bars in the pack and they are 20g each. I think these normally retail around the £1.40 mark, but Sainsbury's is doing 2 packs of certain Cereal bars for £2, so a bit of a saving to be had. The wrapper of the bar is like the cardboard box with it being blue in colour and has the Monkey on it as well.
Now to the Cereal Bar. This is rectangular and quite chunky. It is a Mixture of normal Coco Pops pieces, with a good few Coco Rocks chunks mixed in, the odd Milk Chocolate Chunk and even a drizzle of Chocolate on the top. This is nice and sweet and certainly I would have expected more calories from this. Although I find this sweet, I can eat 2 bars, 1 after the other, as they are so more-ish. The large Coco Rocks and the large-ish Chocolate chunks are good as they are scattered through the bar, and it isn't that a struggle to eat this without stretching your mouth.
The best Cereal Bar I have ever eated, and i've finished my whole box of them now.
I've found recently that discovering a tasty cereal bar is actually a fairly tough task! The low calorie ones which claim to be 'chocolate' are in fact low on the choc, high on the oats and disgustingly dry and tough. However, these coco rocks bars are quite the opposite!
I've tried the original coco pop bars and have always enjoyed them, so I thought I'd give these a try as well. Coming in a blue box, they are easy to distinguish from the others, yet have the coco pop monkey on the front and that distinctive 'kellogg's coco pops' label.
In a foil wrapper, each of them blue, the chocolate cereal bars are revealed to be made up of super size coco pops, with chunks of chocolate and a web of chocolate over the top. They are deliciously crunchy and the chocolate chunks give them an extra something and make them all the more chocolatey. Of course, with all that chocolate, I would say two is my maximum before they would make me feel sick. But at least they deliver on their promise!!
And get this: they are only 82 calories a go, and 2g of fat. And they're a good size. So the perfect chocolate treat!!
