Kinder Surprise:
I am a big kid sometimes and one of the things from my childhood I still enjoy from time are Kinder Surprise Eggs - I love them!
Every Easter I get a three pack as a little treat. I normally have one a day from Good Friday till Easter Sunday. These little traditions are weird aren't they?
As a child the main attraction was the combination of chocolate and a toy, as a toy it's more about the nostalgia I think.
Kinder eggs are about the same size and shape as a small real egg and they come wrapped in orange and white foil. There is various information on the foil but often it is too crinkly to read. The packaging design hasn't really changed much since I was a kid which makes them seem quite retro to me.
Inside the foil you get a chocolate egg that easily breaks into two pieces. As a kid I always used to try and get them to break into two equal halves but more often than not they break in a wonky fashion.
The outside of the egg "shell" is milk chocolate and the inside is white. The two types of chocolate combine to create a seriously milky taste. I love the way Kinder chocolate tastes, it is a lovely creamy, delicate flavour that isn't too sweet and sickly. It always feels like a treat whenever I taste it.
Each Kinder Egg contains 115.8 kcal, 0.36oz carbohydrate, 0.27oz fat and 0.06oz protein. I'm not really fussed about how healthy these are or aren't as I only have three a year!
Unlike a lot of the sweets from my childhood the Kinder Eggs don't feel like they've changed much or gotten smaller; they are simply as good as I remember them being.
Inside the chocolate shells there is a little orange plastic egg, (they used to separate into two halves but now they are hinged), containing the toy. The plastic eggs can be handy for keeping little things in like pins, buttons etc. The toys don't ever seem as good as they did when I was kid. Part of that is probably that I am just less interested in toys than I used to be but I am sure that most of the toys used to be the kind that you had to build yourself. These days most of the toys seems to be one piece figures. There are usually several seasonal sets of figures each year like spring, summer and Christmas sets. All the toys are fairly collectable and some people literally have thousands of them. I wouldn't give Kinder Eggs to very small children though because of small parts.
I really love Kinder Eggs, as you may have guessed and for around the 60p mark they are a nice treat.
