A wonderful bar of chocolate, but not as flavoursome as the name would suggest

I adore orange chocolate so after a good week at Weight Watchers decided to treat myself to a bar of Lindt Intense Orange chocolate, I'd seen it in Tesco lots of times but there was always something that appealed more so had overlooked it. Until this week that is, when a bar jumped into my trolley. As it was I forgot about it for a few days after my granddaughter gave me her cold and I lost all my tastebuds, but as soon as both senses of smell and taste returned I grabbed my bar and settled down with the choccy and a film. This Lindt bar is the same as any other, large chunks of fairly thin chocolate which is just waiting for you to snap them off and start munching. It's dark chocolate, which I didn't realise until I opened it as Lindt have changed the wrapper from the one pictured above to a white and orange wrapper which doesn't immediately make you think of dark chocolate. Now this is going to bit a review full of contradictions because although I loved this high quality bar of chocolate, it wasn't what I imagined it would be and had been looking forward to. My main bugbear is the 'intense orange', because it's not intense at all really and I think the bar should have been renamed 'Subtly Orange'! It contains real pieces of orange which are delicious but certainly not highly flavoured enough to infuse the surrounding chocolate bar with as rich a taste of orange as I had been expecting. There are plenty of orange pieces in the bar and these gave it a delicious texture, but the name of the bar surely wasn't referring to the consistency of the chocolate bar. There are also slivers of almond in the bar which again add a nice change of texture, but had very little flavour possibly because the slivers are too small really to be able to capture the lovely nutty flavours. The chocolate in my opinion is the best thing about this chocolate bar, being a rich and creamy dark chocolate which is so moreish that I had almost eaten the entire bar before I checked myself and put some away for the next day. Despite being very rich it's in no way sickly and has a delicious bitter-sweet flavour that is almost addictive. So, the bar overall is an extremely tasty one. The combination of textures is excellent and the dark chocolate is absolutely wonderful. BUT. It's not Intensely Orange at all, it's orangey but no more so than an Orange Cream from a box of Roses which I'm sure you'll agree is not intense at all. I wanted a hit of orange chocolate in the way I'd expect from a Chocolate Orange, perhaps not as polished as a Lindt bar but at least I get the orange flavour I want. I paid around £1.75 for this bar of Lindt Intensely Orange which is the same price as most other Lindt bars, and I believe this is reasonable for such a delicious bar of chocolate which I really enjoyed despite the lack of orange flavour.

A scrumptious chocolate bar, in excellent packaging

This is one of my all time favorites, the cover oozes class and dark pleasure with gold lettering on a black background, and a picture of a orange. And the bar itself more then delivers that promise of wicked delight made by a perfect match of flavors. The bar is made up of a smooth 70% chocolate outer shell, with the inside comprising of dark truffle mousse and bitter orange "jam". (made from orange juice and normal orange) The first bite is a pleasure, with the dark chocolate complimenting the orange tangyness, and leaving a delightful aftertaste in your mouth, and a smooth cocoa finish. The zingy citrus and creamy mousse are just too good to be true, and of course the chocolate is the usual Lindt masterpiece. I would highly recommend this chocolate to any connoisseur and have so far found it to be one of my favorite when combining fruits with chocolate. 10+
