      Disadvantages

Not my favourite Lindt chocolate bar by a long shot.

I was given a small bar of Lindt's Coffee Intense bar this morning and have been looking forward to it all day, only now I've eaten it I'm feeling somewhat deflated. I love Lindt chocolate in general and particularly their Excellence range, which this is part of, and although I rarely drink coffee I really love the flavour in cakes and chocolate.

I had been looking forward to a rich dark chocolate and a deep coffee flavour, but surprisingly for Lindt all I got was a basic block of dark chocolate into which they had tossed a few granules of instant coffee.

Upon opening I thought I was going to be in for a treat because the smell coming from the bar is rich in both the aromas of chocolate and coffee.

It's a nice bar of chocolate, please don't get me wrong, but it's just not what I wanted or expected at all. The chocolate isn't as good as I've come to expect from Lindt, it doesn't have the creaminess the brand is known for and the taste of this is rather bitter in comparison to the bitter-sweet flavour of the majority of Lindt's chocolate.

Dotted throughout the bar are lots of little crunchy bits which I soon realised were coffee granules, the flavour was decent but not as decadent as I'd hoped for and certainly not intense. Every time my teeth encountered a granule I'd get a strong hit of coffee flavour, but only in the same awful way as if I'd gotten a granule on my finger while making a coffee for my daughter and put it in my mouth without thinking.

The texture was nice, the smooth chocolate combined with the crunchy sugary feel of the granules was unusual and the chocolate melted beautifully in my mouth.

I found the Coffee Intense bar rather sickly, even though it's not sweet in the slightest, and I would never have been able to finish even this small bar. In fact I'd had enough by the time I'd eaten four small squares and put the rest away for when my granddaughter comes tomorrow, she can have it because it's not my cup of tea (or coffee!) at all!
