Advantages: sweet and tasty
Disadvantages: high in calories, fat and sugar
I have always been more of a Cadbury's person rather than a Mars one but I can easily be tempted by any chocolate as I do have rather a sweet tooth. Recently Tesco have had really good offers on multi-packs of Mars chocolate bars and also being one for a good bargain I couldn't resist snapping a few packs up and one I purchased was a pack of Mars bars.
The Mars bar is manufactured by Mars and was first launched in 1932 (thank you Wikipedia). The Mars bar comprises of a layer of soft chocolate nougat topped with a layer of caramel and encased in milk chocolate.
As I stated earlier my last purchase was of a multi-pack of 5 x 58g Mars bars for just £1.00 in Tesco, working out at just 20p per bar. This was extremely good value as up can pay around 60p or more for one single bar in some shops. You can also purchase king sized Mars bars, snack sized and you can find mini ones in packs of celebrations.
The mars bars come wrapped in a thin plastic black wrapper, the front of the wrapper has 'Mars' written in large letters that are red and gold which stands out well on the black background. Also on the wrapper you can find nutritional information and ingredients listings. It also states that the Mars bar does not contain and artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and are also suitable for vegetarians.
As you can probably imagine Mars bars are not the lightest in calories and also contain a large amount of fat and sugar. A 58g Mars bars contains the following nutritional information:
Calories - 260
Sugar - 34.6g
Fat - 9.9g
Salt - 0.23g
Personally I think you need to have a pretty sweet tooth to like Mars bars as the combination of the chocolate nougat, caramel and milk chocolate give a very sweet mix of flavours. I do have quite a sweet tooth and so I do really like the odd Mars bar and love the combination of the soft but slightly chewy nougat with the soft caramel and smooth milk chocolate. My mum loves to eat mars bars when they have been in the fridge and have gone hard and so therefore are quite chewy, I though prefer to eat them at room temperature when they are soft and the caramel is a little gooey. Mars bars do seemed to have changed a bit over the last few years and the nougat seems to have become more light and fluffy than it used to be. This to me has not made a huge difference as the bar is still very tasty and certainly satisfies those sweet cravings.
Summary: A Mars bar from Mars!
