Advantages: Yummy galaxy chocolate
Disadvantages: Addictive
We had several friends and family around to our house for dinner over the Christmas period and people were very kind and brought little gifts when they visited. One such gift was this bag of Galaxy counters, which to be honest, I had never seen before - I had tried galaxy chocolate but I didn't realise they had other products such as this one. These chocolate counters come in a handy tear pouch, with a resealable tab if you decide to keep some for later - quite difficult and something we certainly didn't manage to do!
A 140g bag/pouch of these Galaxy counters usually costs around the £2 mark, however I think they are currently on offer in Tesco for £1. The bag that these counters come in uses the same brown chocolately colours that a bar of galaxy comes in. These counters are advertised as 'smooth and creamy milk chocolate pieces'. On the front of the pack, it states that these counters are 'pieces of pure chocolate pleasure'. There is also nutritional information on the front stating that per portion ie a 35g bag, there are 185 calories.
When we received this bag of counters, because it was at Christmas and we already had plenty of sweet treats to use up, we put them away in the cupboard, however, last night, with both of us feeling slightly peckish and wanting some chocolate to munch on, my husband remembered we had this bag to use, and so out it came. The bag is rather deceptive in that there aren't as many counters within the bag as you might think. Since each counter isn't that large, between the size of a 5p and a 10p piece, it is very difficult to just reach for one, so you end up pouring out two or three into you hand. You can really taste the richness of the galaxy chocolate as you eat these, or suck on them, whatever you choose. These counters are completely chocolate throughout and so within each counter, you are getting a full piece of galaxy chocolate, meaning that they really are quite moreish.
Despite the high calorie content, my husband and I very ashamedly managed to get through a whole bagful of these counters in one evening, nibbling as we relaxed in front of the television. It wasn't until we finished the last one that we realised just how many calories we had consumed between us, but to be honest, it was incredibly hard, especially with the size of each counter, to stop eating these. You find yourself pouring a handful out of the bag.
All in all, I would definitely buy these again, I just have to try and restrain myself from eating them all in one go. They are perfect for an evening in front of the telly or for sharing when friends are round. At full price they are quite costly for the amount in the pack, but I would certainly buy a pack again when I see them on offer. Very addictive, but delicious.
Summary: A yummy bag of galaxy chocolate that you just keep eating
