Advantages: delicious, fun and low fat
Disadvantages: will melt in hot weather
Maltesers are one of the simplest, and yet nicest, chocolate treats on the market. They consist of a milk chocolate shell, which encloses a round honeycomb centre. They're quite small (about the same size as a marble or a bit less).
The main selling point for these is that they are so light it doesn't feel like you're having something naughty: the honeycomb is full of air and the chocolate layer, although thick, is not enough to pile on the calories (a 37g packet contains 183 calories). If you are able to restrain yourself to only one or two then you can have the chocolate taste almost calorie free. Looking at the stats, it seems though that we're not too good at only having a few: in 2007 over 10 billion Maltesers were made in their factory in Slough, while the sweets themselves have been around since 1936!
There is one significant downside to Maltesers and this is that in hot weather they melt, and quite disasterously. You can get around this to some extent by keeping them in the fridge, but if they're in sunshine the whole bag will fuse together and ruin what should have been a nice snack. Overall though, these are delicious and one of the healthier treats to have
Summary: highly recommend (particularly in the winter)
