Maltesers, What a Tease!
Member Name: maisie1992
Advantages: Taste, price and variety
Disadvantages: Not the healthiest of snacks...
I assume most people reading this will no doubt have eaten a malteser at somepoint but, if not, maltesers are essentialy a sweet created by mars many years ago. They consist of a ball of malted honeycomb surrounded by a layer of milk chocolate. I find maltesers the perfect enduldgent snack particularly when I'm watching a film. I don't really know why, I guess because you can just grab a handful and munch you're way through without having to look at, or think about it, kind of like popcorn.
Well the packaging is always essentially the same (with odd additional bits and pieces for promotional packs) but its bright red with pictures of some whole and some halved maltesers flying about all over the place and the word maltesers in white accross the front. It is appealing, but really what I want to mention is that you can buy maltesers in all sort of different sized packs, boxes, tubs, tubes etc. As a result you can find a pack for any occasion; to munch on by yourself, share with a partner, share at a party, to give as a gift, you name it mars have thought of it. Its also worth noting Maltesers are fair trade wooo!
...The Actual Malteser...
Its spherical in shape with a diameter about that of a pound coin. Obviously it's chocolate coloured. What I love about maltesers is not only have they got a great chrunch if you bight into them but if you suck on them, once you're past the chocolate, the honeycomb slowly melts in you're mouth. When you first taste them you taste the usual good quality mars milk chocolate that is very sweet and delicous and this is greatly complemented by the honeycomb which is moorish yet not overpowering. The maltesers themselves are light and airy, as anyone whose seen their advertising will know, Mars are trying to market maltesers, not quite as a healthy chocolate, but almost like the best pick of an unhealthy bunch, if that makes sense. They've been doing this with the catchphrase "you'll have to find other ways to be naughty".
I find when I eat maltesers I open the packet and eat the first few then before I even notice it I'm eating the last one. Hense I guess the "tease", I always feel like I want just one more. Clearly not great for my waist line but the standard packets (37g) only have 181 calories and you do feel like you get a lot in the packet.
Well it's difficult to comment on the price because you can get so many different sized packets. Usually the standard packets are about 60p in most corner shops and supermarkets. I have seen multi packs of the fun sized packets in pound land so obviously if you're trying to save a bit of money this would be a good starting point especially as you'll probably find you eat fewer in one sitting as there smaller portions (19g bags opposed to 37g). In general though I would say they are priced similary to other chocolate and sweet products.
One final thing to mention is that Mars now offer other malteser products e.g. white maltesers, icecreams and hot chocolate that you may want to check out if you enjoyed this product.
Summary: A great treat for film nights
