McVities Digestives (no chocolate)
Advantages: Tasty biscuits
Disadvantages: Bit expensive
McVities is the first brand that springs to mind when thinking about biscuits, and I always like tucking into a nice simple McVities Digestive Biscuit... well, whenever I can, really. These are perfect for snacking on or dunking into tea, and despite their simplicity they do taste delicious.
You can buy a 250g pack for £0.89 from Tesco, which is not too bad. I have seen the larger pack sizes on promotion at supermarkets at £1 quite frequently which I think is a good deal so I do try to look out for these when they are on special offer as often as I can.Yes these may be a bit more expensive than you would usually find supermarkets' own brand digestive biscuits for, but then this is a trusted and reputable brand and I do usually like to splash out for these instead because they are worth it and generally do taste nicer.
These are packaged in a fairly thin plastic wrap with an eye catching red and blue design that you can instantly recognise, with a big McVities logo on the front and some basic information. Overall the packaging is quite nice and aesthetically pleasing. This plastic wrap is fairly easy to peel open at either end with your fingers unlike some biscuit packages which you almost need a pair of scissors to get open! As I don't usually finish a pack in a go, I am able to use a peg to seal the gap made in order to maintain freshness.
The digestives have a nice wholesome biscuity taste and though these biscuits are sweet enough to be considered a sugary treat, I find that the balance of sugar put in is just right; it is not to sugary. Eating too much can result in your mouth feeling rather dry which is why I like to dunk mine into tea before eating, but really, it is all down to personal preference. With stores' own labelled digestive biscuits I sometimes find that they taste a bit too salty but this is not an issue here. They have quite a nice crunchy texture, but fortunately they are not too bitty like you can find with some cheaper brands of digestives.
The biscuits themselves look quite plain but aesthetically pleasing, being round and flat and smooth with writing pressed into each digestive.
Obviously it is not good to consume too much biscuits and snacks on a daily basis, however, I find that these are rather filling, so a few of these round biscuits should be enough for one go. McVities also sells chocolate covered versions of these digestives (the Dark Chocolate covered ones are my favourite) which can be a nice, sweeter treat.
Altogether, this is a lovely pack of biscuits which is available for quite a good price and these are suitable for all occasions. They make a lovely snack and taste delicious and all in all I think that these digestives give you value for money. I would thoroughly recommend them with 5 out of 5 stars.
