McVities Gold Bar
Advantages: very tasty, crunchy biscuit, great value
As I have stated before I like to add a sweet treat to mine and my husbands packed lunch but I have recently decided to try and cut down on the size of the bar of chocolate that I have so have been purchasing smaller ones instead. One pack of chocolate bars which caught my eye recently was the McVitie's Gold bars which I had not actually eaten for some time but as they were on special offer I thought I would buy a packet.
These gold bars are 'crunchy biscuit bars with a caramel flavour coating'. I purchased a multi-pack containing 9 of the gold biscuit bars from Tesco on a half price special offer for just £0.89 which I though was great value as they work out at less than 10p per bar.
The bars came packaged in a plastic gold coloured wrapper which has the McVites's logo on the front as well as two yellow banners which state that the gold bars contain no artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated vegetable oil. On the back of the pack you can find more detailed information about the gold bars including full nutritional information, ingredients listings and company contact details. Inside the outer pack you will find the 9 bars all individually wrapped in gold plastic wrappers keeping the bars nice and fresh.
You will also notice on the outer packet that there is a advert for the McVite's VIP club, this is a online club which anyone can join (mcvites.co.uk/vipclub) and earn points to use against rewards for purchasing McVites products. You get 5 points for joining and by entering the code on the packet located in the best before box of the packet of gold bars you get 3 points. There are all different rewards available ranging from 30p off biscuits for 5points or a ipod nano for 1000 points. If you buy McVite's products on a fairly regular basis it is certainly worth joining as the points soon add up.
When you open one of the bars you will find that they look like they are coated in a strange colour white chocolate as it is a creamy looking gold colour. The bar is made to look like an actual bar of gold with the rectangular shape, it also has the word 'gold' imprinted on the top. The caramel flavoured coating is quite thick and covers a piece of crunchy biscuit. One thing I like about these gold bars is the lovely contrast of the smooth, creamy caramel flavoured coating in comparison to the really crisp, crunchy biscuit. The outer gold coating to me tastes just like caramac which I absolutely love. These bars are quite small but they are very sweet so personally as much as I enjoy eating one I find one to be just perfect to satisfy my sweet cravings and at just 116 calories per bar they don't sabotage the diet too much either.
Overall these are very tasty, great quality biscuit bars from McVite's and ones that I would certainly recommend anyone to try.
Summary: a great quaility biscuit bar from McVites
