Whilst I am at work, I get rather peckish and rather than head to the vending machine and spend an extortionate amount of money for a solitary chocolate bar, I've been investing in cake bars and other snacks during a supermarket shop to last me throughout the working week. One of my purchases was Mr Kipling's Double Choc Chip Cakes, which have gone through a rebranding and differ from the image above, but the actual product remains the same.

Each box contains six individually wrapped mini cake slices. The fact that each one is in its own sealed plastic wrapping is handy, as there is no worry about the rest of the cakes going hard and stale if you open the box to nibble on just one. The cakes are fairly well sized and are ideal for a little snack inbetween meals and won't spoil your appetite too much, unless you over-indulge!

The box displays the nutritional details, which is surprisingly low in calories (6% of your RDA) and about average on sugar content (12% of your RDA) - This is per slice, however, so again if you begin to eat your way through the box, you'll find yourself ending up with more calories and sugars than you originally intended to have. The box also mentions 100% natural flavours and the fact they are baked with free range eggs, which shows that there is a great deal of thought and care going into these cake slices.

As for the taste, they are soft and moist, with just the right texture for the perfect chocolate cake. The addition of choc chips into the mix varies up the flavour as you bite into a slice and find little lumps of hard chocolate inside the cake. I love the flavour of the chocolate chips against the sponge and Mr Kipling is the master of these types of cakes. As I mentioned before, the individual wrappings help contain the moist feel to these cake slices and prevents them from drying out and becoming stale.

I recommend these cake slices to anyone who has a sweet tooth, as they aren't overly high in the sugar and calorie content (in moderation!) and they are baked using free range eggs and natural flavourings, so it isn't just processed junk. Mr Kipling is a well known brand and very well established, so you know that the quality mark will be high. These are my favourite of their cake slice brands, due to the sweet chocolate taste, although their Bakewell Slices are equally as yummy!
