Nestle Animal Bar
Advantages: Delicous, animal pictures etched into the chocolate
Disadvantages: It's chocolate!
The good old Animal Bar from Nestle has long been a favourite in my house due to my son's intense love of all animal related products. This chocolate has no exceptions for him and as it has a picture of two animals etched into the face of the chocolate he loves it.
The Animal Bars come in packs of 4 from Sainsbury's and they cost 95p for a pack. This isn't too bad as the bars are a good size for a little snack and although I wouldn't put them in his lunch box for school, they make a good sweet treat for a lunch box when you go out for the day together.
The bar is just chocolate and nothing else. There are no nuts, fruit bits, honeycomb or anything else for them to turn their little noses up at and the chocolate is actually very tasty. It is smooth and quite creamy and melts easily in the mouth, leaving a satisfyingly sweet taste lingering around your tongue.
It is quite a thin bar of chocolate with raised edges and the "picture" part of the chocolate is even thinner, meaning when you bite into it, it does easily break and you can end up with bits falling out the side of your mouth which can be embarrassing in public, however most sensible adults will nibble little bits to avoid this happening. That's what I do anyway!
The animals featured on the flat surface vary from Parrots through to Lions but they do seem to be wild animals from other countries, rather than pet or farm animals. This is fine with my kids as they prefer zoo animals to other kinds.
The bar comes wrapped in silver foil and then a paper jacket around it. The kids like to keep the silver foil, smooth it out and then use it for sticking onto pictures to add some sparkle. We quite often keep sweet wrappers of one kind or another for sticking as it is a cheap way to get arty and is better than binning it!
Nutrition wise this little bar has 97 calories in it which is apparently 5% of the guide line daily amount for kids and I think this OK as long as there are not too many other sweet treats over the course of the day.
So for a smallish, sweet and delicious snack I think Animal Bars are a good one to choose.
