Advantages: Only 99 calories, Crispy, Taste great

Disadvantages: Nothing

I love chocolate and often crave it during my working week at work. I do sometimes treat myself to a chocolate bar here and there; how-ever I am desperately trying to cut down on my intake of chocolate and other sweet things. Instead of buying a chocolate bar I decided to go for these Nestle Blue Riband wafer biscuits which I have had before.

* ~ * THE WAFERS * ~ *
Blue Riband are chocolate wafer biscuits made by Nestle. They are individually wrapped, making them perfect for popping into a lunch-box or your bag for on the go. Each wafer biscuit is just 99 calories which makes them perfect for people who want something sweet but are trying to loose weight or cut down on chocolate/sweet treats. I purchased a pack of 6 wafer biscuits from my local Co-Op. The individual wafers come in a dark blue plastic wrapper and has a picture of the biscuit on the front along with the Nestle logo and the name of the product. It also states in a large circle that each one is 99 calories. On the back of the main packaging you will find nutritional information, contact information and a list of ingredients. Each bar is wrapped in its own plastic wrapper which is also dark blue in colour and has the same information on as the main plastic wrapper in which all the individual bars come in.

* ~ * PRICE/AVALIABILITY * ~ *
I purchased these from my local Co-op how-ever they are available from Asda, Sainsburys, Tesco and other supermarkets/local shops. Prices may vary, how-ever the average price for a pack of 9 is about £1.55. Asda currently have these on offer on 2 for £2.50.

* ~ * TASTE TEST * ~ *
The main and individual wrappers are easy to tear open from either end. When I tear the wrapper open it reveals a nice sized wafer biscuit which is covered in milk chocolate. The top of the biscuit is slightly textured from the chocolate covering the wafer layer. There is a chocolatey smell to the biscuit but it doesn't smell too sweet. As I bite into the biscuit there is a slight crisp noise as my teeth sink into the wafer layers and bite off a piece of the biscuit. The texture of the biscuit in my mouth is quite rough due to the wafer layers in the biscuit; how-ever it has a slight crispy texture to it as you chew the wafer layers. As you chew the biscuit more, you can taste the milk chocolate which is nice and not too over-powering or sweet. When you look into the biscuit after you have taken a bite you can see all the light, crispy wafer layers with a small amount of chocolate cream sandwiched between them.

After eating the wafer biscuit I felt satisfied, as there was just enough chocolate to put off anymore sweet/chocolate cravings I was having. I did have a slight after taste in my mouth which was quite sweet and a little chocolatey. After a small drink of water the after-taste soon goes. I did find that some of the wafer did get stuck in my teeth a little, how-ever after rubbing my tongue along them the wafer soon disappeared.

* ~ * OVERALL OPINION * ~ *
I really like these biscuits as they have a great texture and taste to them and are also only 99 calories per biscuit. I think they are also good value as I would normally buy a chocolate bar which will cost me at least £0.50-70p. As the biscuits are individually wrapped, they are great for lunch boxes or slipping in your bag if you are on the go but want a sweet/chocolate treat and because they are individually wrapper it means they won't dry out either. There is a nice amount of chocolate in the biscuits, but not too much that it'll make you feeling sick or bloated. I have to give these biscuits 5 out of 5 stars as they taste great and are brilliant value.
