My last Rolo? Of course you can have it... Because they are rank!

When I was little I can remember my nanny and granddad had a big tin of sweets. If I had been good, I was allowed to take my pick from the tin and take some sweets for the car ride home, the only stipulation being that I had to do it with my eyes shut. I can remember rummaging around the box of mars bars, snickers, and milky ways trying desperately to avoid the distinctively shaped booby prize: the pack of Rolo's.
I can't quite put my finger on why I dislike Rolo's but it has stayed with me into my adult years.
Rolos are small, thimble shaped chocolates filled with a kind of soft toffee / hard caramel; kind of like mini Mars bars but without the nougat. First of all I should say that I am not the biggest fan of caramel (unless it is Hotel Chocolat's Salted Caramel - sounds gross but is absolutely divine!). There is more to my dislike of Rolo's than this though. The chocolate they use has quite a strange flavour, too sweet and sickly for my taste. This is offset by the unpleasantly chewy texture of the toffee which in itself also has a strange and unpleasant flavour. After chewing it for a while, you are left with a sickly wad of toffee that refuses to disappear.
On those days when I did pick the Rolo's out of the tin I invariably got halfway through the pack and then gave the rest to my little brother. Before writing this review I brought a packet from my local newsagent (50p for a packet of 10 Rolo's) and the same thing happened; I got halfway through and had to give the rest away. For me to give away chocolate is by no means a regular occurrence and it should give you an idea of just how much I dislike these sweets!
