Advantages: Delicious Chocolate & Chewy Caramel, Yummy Treat
Rolo's are made by Nestle whom are a well-known brand who also make our favourite choccie bars such as Kit Kat, Aero, Milkybar & more. They were first introduced in 1937 and are still a well-known, popular chocolate treat now. Rolo's are little separate chocolate treats which are a bit like a cone shape without the point on top. The milk chocolate cones have a yummy, chewy caramel centre which is soft when you bite into it. On the top of the chocolate treats there is a circular design with almost like a dot engraved onto the top of them. I remember having these sometimes as a child. My Nan used to often buy me a packet and I used to love putting them in the fridge so the chocolate went hard.
As far as I can remember Rolo packaging hasn't really changed from over the years. The chocolates are neatly stacked on their side behind each other and are then wrapped in gold foil and folded at each end. The gold foil is then wrapped in a paper wrapper which is brown in colour and has Rolo's in big red bubble writing written on the front of it. It has also a small picture of what the Rolo's look like on the front as well. On the packet you will find nutritional information and other information such as ingredients and contact details for Nestle.
The only other sweet's I have seen in a similar packaging to these are the Dairy Milk Chocco's which are a little similar to Rolo's but don't have the caramel centre.
These are available to buy in single packs from most local shops and supermarkets. Prices can vary but they start from about 56p-60p per single pack. You can also buy multi-packs of these from supermarkets which cost £1.89 for 5 packs of Rolo's which I think is quite good value.
As I opened the pack, I couldn't really smell too much. There were a total of 20 sweets in the packet, and I suspect this is the same with every pack seeing as they are all the same size. They do smell very sweet and I can smell the milk chocolate but there is no smell of caramel. On some Rolo's you can see some caramel which has seeped out of the bottom of the Rolo's in a tiny hole. This isn't the same on all Rolo's though. Of course they look appetising because it's chocolate and to me, most chocolate looks appetising!
As you bite into the Rolo, your teeth will sink into the chocolate and then into the chewy caramel centre. The milk chocolate is lovely and sweet but not too sickly. The caramel is sweet and chewy and tastes lovely when the chocolate and caramel have been chewed together. As you chew the Rolo the chocolate melts even more and the caramel gets softer. The texture of this is really smooth on your tongue. The caramel doesn't taste too sickly and isn't too sweet when combined with the chocolate. Quite often chocolate & caramel together can be quite sickly. After you have finishing chewing the Rolo, you may have some caramel stuck to your teeth, so it's important to brush or chew some gum after eating a packet of these. How-ever after munching the whole packet in less than 5 mins, I didn't find too much caramel stuck to my teeth which was good. The Rolo's don't leave too much of an after taste in your mouth, it just tastes very sweet and you can still taste the caramel slightly.
***OTHER ROLO PRODUCTS***
There are other Rolo products you can buy including Ice Cream, Doughnuts, Cookies, and Biscuits & Desserts. I haven't really tried any of these products so I can't comment on what they taste like.
***PRODUCTS SIMILAR TO ROLO'S***
There are lots of products available to buy which contain chocolate and caramel; how-ever there are no products like this which are alike to Rolo's. Most other chocolate and caramel products have runny caramel such as Cadbury's Dairy Milk Caramel. The other things similar to Rolo's as previously mentioned is the Dairy Milk Chocco's which look very similar and are in a similar packet but they do not have caramel inside of them, they are just milk chocolate.
Although I'm not a huge fan of Nestle chocolate I think the combination of chocolate and chewy caramel taste delicious and this has to be one of my favourite chocolate treats at the moment. The good thing about the packaging to this product is that you can easily take a few Rolo's form the pack and then fold the packaging over to keep the other one's covered and fresh. I'm not sure if I would try any of the products in the Rolo range as the ice cream, cookies & doughnuts don't really interest me. If you like sweet products ever now and again and are a bit of a chocaholic like me then I would recommend you to definitely give these a try, if you haven't already!
