Advantages: Thick chocolate, nice texture and lovely taste
Disadvantages: None in my opinion, although some may find it high in sugar
I decided to do a review on this what I had presumed was a long forgotten chocolate treat from the 1970's. Recently whilst in pound land I chanced up on them again, the deal being three in a box for £1.
I had almost forgotten what they were like such was the time lapse since last delighting in that fluff filled chocolate type pyramid.
Once home I popped them in the fridge along with the other shopping and waited for them to cool. On went the kettle and out again came the said walnut whips. Taking one gently out it took me back to my childhood, however this beauty was not something you would have just any old day, this was something of a treat, and when you did get to taste it was something to savour. Let's face it not any old chocolate bar that has half a walnut lodged precariously on the top to give it that final flourish!
Biting into the (now slightly cooler and hardened chocolate) the chocolate tasted delicious, the lovely thing about these is Nestle the makers do not scrimp on the chocolate, there is a nice thick base and the swirl of the shape lends nicely to giving a decent bite into it, straight into that sweet white fluffy soft centre - absolutely delicious. And as much as some would think that the said walnut atop was just for decoration, it actually adds to the overall flavour, as you crunch into the sweet mixture and decent chocolate, almost as if a prize for reaching the top of the pyramid.
Strangely enough, I thought these were the bee's knees when I was younger and I think they are actually even better now. Not least as you get 3 whole walnut whips for £1!
I love everything about these, the neat squared off packaging to keep the slightly awkward shaped whip in shape. I do not think the packaging has changed for years, but that said, the blue colouring is a classic style and does suit it.
All I can say is if you haven't had one of these for a while, take a trip down memory lane give them another go. Personally, I love having one with a cup of tea but they perfect for any sort of treat. I should add, they have a total of 175 calories per whip.
I give these ***** for taste and price.
Summary: A sweet neat quality treat for a good price
