Thorntons Caramel Squares
Advantages: tasty, sweet 80cals
Disadvantages: one is not enough
I am not normally one to write reviews about food but my friend called in today for tea and brought a packet of these Thorntons caramel shortcakes up with her and they tasted so good I just had to share it with everyone else!!
Thorntons - The History:
Thorntons was established in 1911 by Joseph William Thornton Who opened up a sweet shop with his son Norman. Following this the shop was successful and additional shops were opened. Thorntons have been established now for nearly 100 years and have been making chocolate ever since. There are around 635 Thorntons shops which make a turnover of £200 million a year. In my opinion buying something out of Thorntons is a real treat and I would only really shop here on special occasions as the chocolate is a little more expensive, however very luxurious and worth every penny!
Per serving you will be eating 86 calories, 5.6g of fat (2g of which saturates), 0.1g fibre ad 0.8g of protein. The packet itself provides 12 servings and contains milk, soya, gluten, wheat and oats. The product may contain traces of nuts and is however suitable for vegetarians. The product is an alcohol free recipe with no hydrogenated fat.
In my opinion, 86 calories is not too bad at all for a little slice of heaven! the squares themselves are about 1 inch square and half an inch thick - most of the biscuit is made up of shortcake with a thin layer of chocolate on the top.
The packet suggests that the item is stored in a cool dry place and once opened must be stored in an airtight container. In my house I did not need an airtight container as these were so nice they did not last too long!
On the packet the Thorntons mini caramel shortcakes are described as 'A delicious crunchy biscuit base, topped with a thick layer of caramel and thorntons milk chocolate.
I had a few of these little treats with a cup of tea and would describe them as follows: When you put the biscuit into your mouth and bite into it, the caramel on top of the biscuit is very soft and has a real fudgy taste and just slides into your mouth along with the crumbly sweet base. The chocolate on top of the biscuit is quite thin and melts last in the mouth. You get a delicious buttery aftertaste and these are a slice of heaven without a doubt!
The drawback to these biscuits are that one just was not enough for me as I am preety greedy!! I would definitely buy them but not all of the time as I really enjoyed them today as a special treat and want to keep it that way!
Unfortunately I cannot tell you the price but whatever they cost they were well worth it!
If you are having a bad day, these will definitely cheer you up!
Summary: a great mood lifter
