“ Brand: Thorntons / Type: Fudge „
It was my birthday yesterday and now I'm 23! Yay! Amongst the birthday presents I've received so far was a box of Thornton's vanilla chocolate fudge from my thoughtful boyfriend (though whether he bought it for me or him I'm not entirely sure!).
As with a lot of Thornton's products, the packaging is well-thought out, and the cardboard box has an appetising picture of the fudge and clear indication as to the product. However, if you've never opened a Thornton's fudge box before, you'll be disappointed that the inside contains a lot of 'space', with just a fairly small bag of fudge at the bottom.
The bag is easy to open, and the fudge does taste delicious. Good sized cubes of rich vanilla fudge covered with milk chocolate. The chocolate is high quality, and in fact more than about three cubes or so in one go will start to get quite sickly! However, this is good because it means they last a bit longer (or you can hoard them away from greedy boyfriends).
Unsurprisingly, the fudge contains hideous amounts of fat and sugar. However, the box is big enough to share, and it does make a really good Christmas present for people you're not sure what to get. Often Thornton's has it on offer too, and if you team it with some of the other flavours on offer you can get a really nice selection. If you're feeling creative, you could even split it up into nicer bags with ribbon or something, though the Thornton's name stands out well alone.
As manufactured fudge goes it's pretty good. It's not the level of the amazing fudge shops around, for example in Bath, but it is a nice tasting sweet treat.
The 420g fudge boxes are £5.50 on the Thornton's website, and at the moment there is a 3 for 2 offer on. You can also buy little packs which would make nice stocking fillers.
Overall, it's pretty good, but the unnecessary and misleading packaging of the boxes versions lets it down a bit, and it's not quite as good as the handmade stuff.
Thornton's Chocolate Smoothered Vanilla Fudge is delicious. Well I don't think I need say any more, do I? Because that is the point, it is delicious and just the way fudge should be, smooth and creamy, sweet and melt in the mouth.
You can buy it in 420g boxes or bags of 155g, its costs £5.75 for the boxes and £1.65 for the bags. I can't buy the boxes because I don't have enough self control, pigging out on 155g is bad enough. Tucking into 420g worth of this would be just too much.
Thorntons is a well known and respected brand so you know that this is a product you can trust. Perhaps it isn't a very healthy treat but I think the occasional indulgence is OK if you eat a healthy diet most of the time.
So next time you fancy something naughty why not give this a go? You can't go wrong in my opinion.
I like my fudge a certain way. Not too sweet and sickly, not too "bitty" or chewy, just smooth and creamy.
Thorntons Chocolate Smothered Vanilla Fudge certainly hits the spot! As soon as you sink your teeth through the chocolate coating into the smooth, creamy fudge, it starts to melt in your mouth - delicious!
I got both the 420g box and 155g bag as part of the chocolate hamper. I'm only half way through the box so far, there's loads in it. Each bite sized cube is about 1.5cm.
The list of ingredients include clotted cream (high up on the list of ingredients), and natural vanilla flavouring.
Per 100g of fudge:
It doesn't contain any hydrogenated fat, and is gluten-free.
Not the healthiest snack, but well worth it as an occasional treat!
The 420g box retails at £5.75, and the 155g bag sells at £1.65.
