Lovely tasting chocolate treats with an unfortunate off-putting texture

I love Thorntons chocolate so when I was in town recently I decided to pick up a few things from the Thorntons shop. I hadn't seen these Chunky Chocolatey Jumbles before so I picked up a small 55g bag for 75p to try. There is also a 180g pouch available for £1.99. The little bag I bought is made of foil to keep the treats fresh, and it has an easy-tear opening on the corner to make it simple and easy to open. There were 18 sweets in my bag, a mixture of chocolate covered raisins, fudge and toffee. I was a little disappointed with the chocolate as it has the same plastic-coated feeling as some of the other Thorntons chocolates I've tried recently. The chocolate itself is nice and creamy and actually delicious, but it is spoilt by the horrible feeling film that seems to coat the outside, making it an unpleasant texture in my mouth. The raisins are the size you would expect as they are just raisins with a fairly thin layer of chocolate on them, and they taste nice, but no better than any other chocolate covered raisins I've tried. The fudge comes in little cubes just over half a cm, but they are covered in a nice thick layer of chocolate which makes the finished sweet a ball with about a 1 and a half cm diameter. The fudge is creamy and not overly sweet, and it goes beautifully with the flavour of the chocolate. And finally the toffees are like thick discs of toffee, covered in a thick layer of chocolate. The toffee was not what I was expecting, it was soft and not very chewy and to be honest texture wise it was difficult to tell it apart from the fudge. Taste wise though it is really lovely, sweet but rich with a very high quality taste. They really are delicious sweets. There are 477 calories, 22.7g fat and 57.4g of sugar per 100g of these sweets so they're not for everyday consumption and best kept for the occasional treat.

        Thorntons chocolate covered sweets

Thorntons are so well known for their toffee and fudge, that when I saw a packet of Chunky chocolatey jumbles I decided to try them. The foil pouch is a bright sand or should I say fudge colour with a huge chocolate circle outlined in purple with the name in the centre and two smaller circles saying "I'm really yummy!" and a picture of the contents. The packet contains 180grams of assorted chewy toffees, creamy fudge and raisins all covered in a layer of chocolate. The chocolate raisins are quite small but lovely and juicy, the fudge pieces are about the size of Maltesers but squarish and deliciously tasty, my teeth just sank into them and the flavour was fabulous, definitely my favourite and then the toffee which looked just like the fudge pieces but rounder, so I didn't always know which one I was going to get! It was quite chewy, not so good for my teeth or at least my fillings! The pieces were easy to tip into my hand to eat and didn't melt which was quite pleasing! The assortment contains 58% milk chocolate smothered raisins 41%, and 58%milk chocolate smothered vanilla fudge 41% and 49% smothered chewy toffee. There is a warning that they may contain traces of nuts and that they contain milk, soya and egg. I have just nibbled at these and so has my husband so I haven't had too many calories at a time! The nutritional information is given for 100gram as standard information and also 1/7 pack which has 124 cals, 1.2 grams protein, 16.3grams carbohydrate, 5.9 grams of fat, 0.5grams of fibre and 0.08grams of salt. Sugar is the main ingredient then raisins plus lots of other ingredients needed in producing the sweets. Currently the pouch cannot be recycled which is a minus point, but the product can be stored in a cool dry place. I admit I really enjoyed this treat and will happily buy them again, at £1.99 they are an affordable treat to share. Or for 69p you can get a small 55gram packet to eat all by yourself!
