We recently had some friends around for the evening, and they very kindly brought us a box of these Thorntons Classics as a gift. Now, most people will have had some experience in terms of trying Thorntons chocolates, and would attest to the quality of the product, however I had never tried this particular range of Thorntons Classics, which for a 330g box, could cost around £5-£7, which in my mind is pretty hefty.
On the front of the box, it states that these 'Classics' are a combination of 'milk, dark and white chocolate' and therefore there should be something for everyone within this box of chocolates. It also says that this is a 'delicious collection of Thorntons classic favourites including caramel, fudge, fruit and nut centres'. Like most Thorntons products, the cream box is elegant and stylish, and you would know that it screams 'quality' from the packaging,
There are 2 layers of chocolates within this box, and I have to say very ashamedly that my husband and I had these all devoured within a week! Thorntons claims to use the finest of ingredients, inclduing West African Forastero and Trinitario cocoa beans, as well as having no added vegetable facts, just 100% cocoa butter. There are no artificial colours or flavours in the chocolates and they are suitable for vegetarians, although not for those with nut allergies.
Within the 2 layers, there is a repeat choice of 13 different chocolates, including strawberry velvet, creamy coffee, hazelnut praline, orange crunch, coconut paradise, and even turkish delight. I am not a huge white chocolate fan, but even the white chocolate selection within this box was appealing. My favourite in terms of creaminess and yumminess (!) were certainly the coconut paradise and the strawberry velvet, however I could have ate any of them, unlike the chocolates you get in Quality Street, where there are always the same ones left over! I don't think we have ever ate a box of chocolates so quickly in our house, and I usually prefer savoury food to sweet food, but these chocolates were simply delicious, very hard to say no to, with everyone tasting of quality chocolate, with a great variety to suit everyone.
All in all, despite the hefty price tag, it is very hard to dispute both the variety within this box as well as the quality of the products. I would certainly be delighted to receive such a selection again, but I don't think I would be tempted to purchase it for myself at that price, despite the wonderful quality, that Thorntons have got a reputation for. If you sdon't think £6 of £7 is hefty, then you should really give this box of classics a try!
