I live near a store that stocks unusual types of candy from around the world and was tempted to buy these Reese's Peanut Butter Cups White Miniatures. I have tried the larger sized milk chocolate cups in their 2-pack by the same firm and enjoy them but had never come across these before.
I bought these in a treat sized bag or what the firm call a "classic bag" and there are 340 grams of product inside. It's difficult to estimate but I'd say there was about 50 plus individual cups in the bag. They are about the size of a large truffle sweet and are just over 3 centimetres in diameter and almost 2 centimetres deep. There are more than enough of these to ensure you wouldn't run out of them on a party night!
The outer wrapper or bag which holds the sweets is printed with some product information. Reese's (and The Hershey Company) produces products like this for an American market so much of the contact information is abroad. My bag actually has a sticker patched over the main details which gives a website address for The Stateside Candy Co. who import these items.
Full ingredients are listed which include sugar, peanuts, vegetable oil, palm, shea, sunflower oil, milk fat and more. There is also a preservative and an emulisfier ingredient included.
The peanut butter cups come wrapped in foil. This is a white foil wrap which is printed with the company logo, full ingredients and contact information. When you unwrap the foil there is a white chocolate 'pie' which sits inside what looks like a tiny cupcake case. The double wrapping annoys me a little as I think it's quite wasteful and perhaps unneeded in this case. The foil does help to keep these fresh but I'm not sure the waxy inner case is needed.
You need to peel the wax paper case away from the chocolate and this can be done with fingernails. The edge of the chocolate is jagged and looks decorative. The sweets have a delicious aroma of peanut butter, cream and rich cocoa. This aroma is released as soon as you unwrap the sweet.
The chocolates are a little bigger than bitesize - I can consume these in about three small mouthfuls. They consist of a white chocolate outer covering. This chocolate is thicker on the top as if this is a pie crust and the sides are noticably thinner. The inside of the chocolate has a pale coloured peanut butter centre. This centre is not soggy and melty like peanut butter in a jar. It's much more dense and firm and looks as if it would be dry but when you put it into your mouth it melts and is the perfect texture.
The blend of white chocolate and the flavoursome, rich peanut butter is intense and beautiful and I have to say I enjoy this flavour of the white chocolate much more than the milk chocolate Reese's cups. They provide a blend of creamy sweetness and earthy peanuts and they leave a pleasant aftertaste of roasted nuts in the mouth.
Every 5 chocolate cups are 44g in size and provide 230 calories and 14g of fat. I think I would only feel comfortable buying these occasionally as they are so moreish it's difficult to stop eating them once you start!
I would definitely buy these again though and these are perfect for things like parties - both for kids and adults.
I bought mine at Fenwicks but check out the website below for stockists:
I enjoyed the milk chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that I had earlier this week so when I was in town today browsing round the new shop that sells nothing but foreign chocolates I decided to try a packet of the white chocolate ones.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Can I end my review there? No? Ok then, can I say the word Ewwwwwwwwwwww 150 times? No? God, you lot are hard to please!
They are basically cups of white chocolate that have been filled with peanut butter and then a white chocolate lid has been put on the top. I know that sounds yummy, but believe me these are so disgusting sweet that I couldn't manage to eat more than about 3/4 of the first cup and didn't even bother starting the second.
The peanut butter inside the cups is a lot softer and smoother than peanut butter than you get in jars, it's also very sugary and has a strange greasy taste. I know because there are so many peanuts in it that it will have a natural oily flavour, but combined with the greasy tasting white chocolate I thought they tasted horrible.
The white chocolate is very poor quality, I don't think you can even CALL it chocolate it's so horrible. It's got a very fake taste that you can hardly taste anyway under the nasty greasy flavour of it and there's also a not very pleasant taste of cheap white icing in the chocolate.
The combination of the peanut butter and white chocolate is proper rank, the flavours don't go together at all and you're left with 2 horrible tastes that get together in your mouth and will probably just leave you feeling mega sick.
I paid nearly £1.00 for these 2 small horrible Reeses Cups and will NEVER buy them again. Ewwwwwwwwwwww!
The original family favourite, reezes peanut butter cups now come in white chocolate. When I first heard this statement I thought that It sounded like some deluded concotion. But, I was deffinetly wrong! These all knew cups have the same smooth, peanuty, tangy textureas the family favourite originals. Which is thick and really tasty. The only difference is the chocolate flavour. The knew white chocolate makes the cups much sweeter, and lighter but less chacky on the tounge.I was always having to drink woth the originals. The chocolate was just too rich. They taste like a milky bar on the outside but with that trademark peanuty taste happily snuggled away inside. The packaging is bright and easy to spot and is similar to its predecesor. The main difference from the milk chocolate cups wraper is that (coincedently) the white chocolate wraper comes in white instead of orange. I still personally prefer the original peanut butter cups, but these are still a nice change if you fancy something a bit different and whacky. These are not very healthy but are a nice family treat for the weekends. Theyare great for eating while watching the knew series of ugly betty! or when that long standing relationship has crumbled. Looks like you will never be resorting to the good old Ben and Jerrys again!
Hershey's famous peanut butter now with the great taste of white chocolate.
