Advantages: None

Disadvantages: Expensive, didn't do what it said

As you may have seen from my previous reviews I am a big fan of Clarins and have returned to the fold like the prodigical daugther after a moment of cost cutting and foray into cheaper alternatives. Upon returning to Clarins, for my skins sake not my wallets, I have found lots of new products in their range that I have been trying out.

I have been fortunate that my partner's mum was fan of Clarins but has moved over to Estee Lauder but for some reason didn't use her Clarins stuff up first so lots of things have made it my way as she's been having a clear out.

One of the products that she passed me was the Gentle Facial Peeling and since the change in weather my skin has gone a bit dry around the edges so I needed to have a good exfloixation to try and clear some of the dead skin cells, so I thought I would give this a try.

The packaging for this is the same as most Clarins products coming in the thick white cardboard box with the Clarins logo on it. Inside the box you find the plastic tube of facial peeling with a screw top lid on it and the usual instructions in various languages. This is one product that if you use I would recommend reading the instructions for though they aren't brilliant for this.

This facial peeling is recommended for sensitive skin and supposedly has "filmogenic texture, without microbeads, which gently lifts impurities and dead surface skin cells and refines skin texture." Huh? I hear you asking yourself, unlike other exfoliants which can feel like you are rubbing sand paper over your face this product doesn't contain any particles that rub the surface of your skin away.

The instructions tell you to use this on cleansed and dry skin and to put on in "light, stroking movements and working from the middle of the face outwards, including the neck." This is really hard work as it goes on with a consistency of a clay mask and then you have to rinse off with water. As you are using these circular movements it does start to peel off and leave a trail across you skin before you wash the residue off. It is supposed to leave your skin soft and radiant. Not mine, it left it red and blotchy and feeling sore. I did follow the instructions and followed this with the toning lotion which eased the pain and the redness.

Now as Clarins fan I thought I would try this product again as I couldn't believe that it could do this to my skin as everything else in the Clarins range is so good and I must have done something wrong. But yes it did. This is now resting at the back of the drawer in the bathroom to be only used in emergencies and definately not before I go out anywhere as it took a few hours for the redness to go down.

Boots sell this at £21.50 for a 100ml tube and my advice is steer clear and spend your money on something else. Personally I would recommend the facial refiner (I will be reviewing this shortly).

I'm not normally one to knock Clarins but in this instance I'm glad I didn't buy this and certainly won't.

Summary: Try at your own peril
