Advantages: Does the job well.

Disadvantages: Too expensive for what it is.

I was wandering around Dublin Airport Duty free shops because my plane had been delayed. (just for a change!)
I was a bit blown away by the prices that woman were being asked to part with for beauty products.

I was quite shocked to see that a mascara that my daughter had lent to me (and which is still languishing in my jacket pocket!) cost 15 Euro. And this is the Duty Free price!

The item in question is a Clarins Pure volume Mascara, 7ml
I see it is available online for £16.25 so there's not much of a saving buying it in Ireland!

The box is simple, recyclable and bears the Clarins Logo.
The mascara tube is plain glossy plastic. It's rather a nice shade of red.
The brush is well spaced out and the bristles are a decent length so you can do the corners of your eyelashesd without blinding yourself.

The blurb says.........
This mascara, which has a rich creamy texture based on selected vegetal waxes, coats and increases lash volume. And, true to form, Clarins has also included high-tech pigments which give thicker, supple more radiant lashes. Perfect for everyone including those who have sensitive eyes or who wear contact lenses.

How to use:
Apply to the base of the lashes up to the tip, then apply a second coat for more sophisticated results.

My eyes say.

It goes on easily, it covers well and doesn't clump the lashes together. (I hate that!) The pigment is really stong. The shade of mine (sorry, my daughter's) is 'Pure Brown'. It is too!
It is also available in 'Pure Black'. (I bet they stayed up all night thinking up a name for those colours!)

Suprisingly, it had a pleasant smell. I assume that this is the conditioning vegetal waxes that it contains.

I found no irritation of my eyes at all. I often don't wear mascara because I don't like the itchy feel a lot of them leave me with. This one is fine for me.

It stayed on well, I used it at my daughter's wedding and it survived my brimming eyes.

There is no doubt that this mascara does what it is designed to do very well. But.......
I think it is very expensive and in my opinion there is nothing in this mascara's performance which justifies the price. Other brands will do the same job for much less.

Summary: It's great if you don't mind paying for the name.

I wonder whether it's better value over the longer term - perhaps it conditions your eyelashes better or something?
