Clinique Redness Solutions Foundation
by SoadFan ~Clinique Redness Solutions Foundation~ ******************************* Amongst the wide range of Clinique products I have tried has been their Clinique Redness Solutions Foundation which I used after having looked for a product that could be used from time to time to help smooth away and conceal any unwanted redness of ... the skin as and when it occurred, rather than using it as a full time foundation product. When trying to establish which foundation shade was right for me the Clinique consultant removed some of my existing foundation and applied 3 different shades of this foundation product in order to see which was the better match. As it turned out the 3 colours that were picked out ranged from fair (shade 02), ivory (shade 03) and neutral (shade 04). The first of these was considered by the consultant to be overly pale against my skin, as was the second option, so the third colour (neutral) was the colour that was eventually settled upon, although I was not 100% certain it was the right option. I was given a full week + supply of the foundation as a trial product to take home and given instructions as to how to apply the product to best effect. I didn't want to purchase the product in the first instance without having used it on my skin, as I was worried about whether there would be any reaction to my skin when wearing the product, so I was happy with my week to 10 days worth of product. ~Using the foundation~ ****************** In use I found that a little of the foundation could go a long way once on the skin as long as I had thoroughly moisturised prior to applying the product lightly and evenly. The texture of this foundation is reasonably light before it dries and is not overly heavy or cloggy feeling when moist, which makes it easy to smooth in to place with either the tips of the fingers or with a make up brush or sponge. I tried all 3 methods of application after having discussed the best way to apply the product with the Clinique consultant, which she felt was best done with a good sized make up brush. I found that using some of the foundation with a make up sponge was rather wasteful as too much of the product was absorbed by the sponge rather than it being placed on to the skin. Applying the foundation with the fingertips does work well in areas such as under the eye area and across the top of the cheekbones and brow line, although this works less well over the whole face area. The use of a good quality make up brush does make applying the foundation quite easy as it can be lightly brushed across the skin to give a reasonably crease free look if used with care (avoiding leaving any brush marks). In use I found that the coverage that is provided by this foundation product is a little thicker and fuller than I might usually like to wear and it does give a very matt full cover finish once it has set fully. I found that applying the foundation as sparingly as I could gave slightly better results as it cut down on that overly made up feel that the product can give if applied too generously. The best results I had when using the product were when I used it combined with another foundation product which perhaps is not the ideal solution, although it can be quite effective once in place. I found that using a lighter coverage foundation product all over the skin as a base product, that could be topped up with a little of the Clinique Redness Solutions foundation, worked far better than when using the product on its own. The Clinique foundation worked well when used on the cheek bones and across the nose areas as well as under the eyes, which is where I felt it was put to best use. I liked the combined effect of the two products together far more than the full coverage matt skin look that was provided by the foundation on its own. Another way that I used the foundation was when I combined it with with some of the green tinted anti redness base product you can buy from the same Clinique range, which I sometimes use. The two products worked quite well together to help conceal redness of the skin, although I would say that the end result was not any better than when using the foundation alongside the lighter feeling foundation product, as described in this review. As far as colour matching goes I feel the range of shades on offer was not ideal for me, as there was nothing that was a 100% colour match for my skin and I felt that I would have liked to have opted for a slightly lighter shade that may have blended in a little better had there been an option available. ~Price/ product rating~ ****************** The cost of the full sized product is £23 for a 30ml tube, which I feel would not be overly expensive if the shade and finish was slightly better than it actually was when I used the foundation. I didn't have any issues with reactions to my skin which was a plus point for the product and I felt that when it was combined with another foundation product and used alongside that, the effect was quite pleasing at times. The texture of the product when moist is easy to work with, although the effect once dry is a little too matt for my liking for it to be used as an all over the face foundation product. My rating for this foundation based on price, shade matching, ease of use and over all results is 3 stars, which I feel is a fair rating based on the performance of this product when in use. Clinique High Impact Mascara
by SoadFan ~Add impact with Clinique~ ********************* I was lucky enough to have been given a well sized sample of this High Impact Mascara from the Clinique range a short while ago, after a very helpful consultation with the Clinique consultant in a large retail store. I was advised at the time that this particular mascara ... may suit my needs as I wanted a nice full look well defined, with no clogging once in place. As I tend to prefer the old school style applicator brushes that are fitted to some mascara products, this product was again the most suited to my needs according to the consultant I spoke with, as it featured a nice full bristle type wand style applicator. ~Colour options~ ************** I had a choice of 2 mascara colours at the time and after having tried both colour options (one colour on each set of eye lashes) I opted for the black shaded version of the product, as I felt it would be more versatile when in wear. I did sample and compare the other option offered, which was a black brown shade, although when I sampled this in store (using a disposable applicator offered by the consultant) the effect was no where near as crisp or dramatic as I wanted. I compared the brown/ black lash effect to the sleeker effect that the black coloured version of the High Impact Mascara had in store and found that I liked that far more. ~Using the product~ *************** In use I have found this mascara product easy and quick to use as the applicator wand works as it should, allowing me to get a nice even coverage on my eye lashes that does give a nice light yet wide eyed effect when applied correctly. The small and compact product container that my mascara came in is around 2/3 of the size of the full product, as it contains a little less of the full sized 8gm product. However the applicator brush remains the same as that used in the full sized product, using the same soft, well spaced bristles to give a wide eyed yet not too heavy and flaky looking finish once on the lashes. The applicator wand is a little shorter in length than usual, as it corresponds to the length of the product tube, although I have not found this to be an issue in use as the mascara is just as easy to apply as the full sized Clinique mascara products I have bought in the past. The lid of the product container doubles as a handle for the applicator brush, which is I find to be pretty standard with these types of product and I have found that it works well enough in this respect. The applicator wand slides back in place after use and the lid is easily tightened to give a secure closure that keeps the mascara protected after use and stops it from drying out. The texture of the actual product is neither too thick and clumpy, nor too thin and runny, as it gives a nice, even looking, well defined end result in my opinion. I have found that by following the Clinique consultants advice about wigging the applicator brush a little to remove any excess product from the brush when removing it from the container (prior to use), rather than rotating the applicator wand in the product tube, has worked well when using this mascara. I have been generally pleased with the looks I have achieved when using this mascara, as it gives a nice highlighted look to the eye area without looking or feeling overly heavy. ~Price and product rating~ ******************** The cost of the full sized product is around £16 which I feel offers fair value for money as a single 8gm tube of the product should last quite some time. The mascara does manage to define the eyes quite well in my opinion and it stays in place for a full day without the need for a top up if applied with care. I would consider buying this product in future as I have enjoyed using it and I feel it compares well with the other mascara products I have used in the past. My rating for the product is 4 stars based ease of use, results and price. Read the complete review |

Clinique Deep Comfort Body Wash
by helenc72 I am a big fan of Clinique products and I like to use a lot of their skin care and some of their makeup. However, when it comes to shower gels I usually go for something a bit cheaper as there are some really nice ones out there which don't cost as much as Clinique. I received this Clinique Deep Comfort body wash in a gift set which I ... bought in the January sales and I have only just got around to using it now as I had such a big stock pile of shower products. This body wash is unscented and it is described as velvety rich, so it is very moisturising, creamy and nourishing. It is a fairly thick but silky rather than gloopy shower cream which looks a bit shimmery and pearlescent when squeezed out of the tube. Some unscented products have a slight weird smell to them instead of an actual fragrance, but this one simply just doesn't smell of anything. Personally I normally do go for nice fragrances, whether they are fruity, flowery, green and planty, nutty or whatever, so the absolute lack of scent seems a bit disorientating to me as I just expect to smell something fresh and clean in the shower. I do see some good points to being fragrance free though, particularly that this will never have an overpowering scent which lingers and interferes with perfume or body lotion, and also that fragrances can upset sensitive skin so this body wash should be suitable for even the most sensitive skins. Personally though, I do miss having a nice scent. The consistency of it is lovely and does live up to its velvety claim. It feels very caring and luxurious on my skin. It is definitely very moisturising. The only complaint from me is that it doesn't lather up as much as some other shower gels and creams. I put it on a shower puff and it does lather up somewhat but I have to really squeeze the puff to get all the lather out and it remains more of a cream than proper lather. I did feel fully clean after washing with this, so I do think it is effective. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to try an intensely creamy and moisturising body wash, but personally I think I would rather stick to slightly cheaper shower products with more exciting scents. If I get another one in a gift set or in a Bonus Time gift (which I think I will as I am planning to get some stuff from Fenwicks which is currently on Bonus Time and this is one of the gifts) then I will happily use it but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it.
