Disadvantages: Doesn't work, dries out the skin

I bought this a while ago because like most people, I hate getting spots. I have fairly oily skin so I get more than my fair share of spots, and am always on the lookout for things to help get rid of them, and I like Clinique so I thought I'd give this a go. It costs £12 for a tiny little 15ml tube, and how long it lasts will depend entirely on how many spots you get - because I get a fair few I found mine ran out really quickly, but if you're lucky enough to only get the odd one or two it would last ages.

It comes in a see through turquoise bottle with a nozzle type applicator which I suppose is meant to help with precision application, but it doesn't really help because you have to squeeze the bottle to get any out and you can easily end up with too much anyway, so you really have to get some on your finger and dab it on the blemishes which makes the nozzle quite pointless really.

The gel is clear and quite thick and sticky, you put it on a blemish and leave it to dry. You then just leave it on your skin and let it do it's work. It's supposed to help clear the blemish, promote healing and reduce redness. It's supposed to be invisible under or over makeup, but it looks shiny on your skin and you can see where you've applied it so it's not invisible, I'd never go out anywhere with this on my skin so I always apply it before I go to bed. Also you can't put makeup on over it because it just peels off when you touch it or goes bitty or causes the makeup to go bitty and look awful. You can't really feel it on your skin once it's dried, so it's not uncomfortable.

I'd read many rave reviews in magazines about this before I bought it so I was really looking forward to using it, but I now wish I hadn't bothered buying it. I found it to be completely useless. I applied it to my blemishes expecting to see a difference within a couple of days, but there was no difference at all. It didn't help get rid of spots, they didn't go away any quicker than usual, it didn't take them down at all, and it didn't make them less red. The only thing it did sometimes do was make a little ring of dry flaky skin around the blemish, which just looks even worse than just having a blemish.

I kept on using it hoping that eventually it would do something, but no, it had absolutely no effect on any blemishes at all, continuing to only affect the skin directly around the blemish instead. In short, this was a total waste of £12.

Summary: An ineffective spot treatment
