Advantages: The smell is unique and long lasting

Disadvantages: It is technically a man's fragrance but don't let that put you off

I actually came across Chemistry by Clinique by accident in the airport and fell so in love with the scent that I had to buy a bottle. It was like nothing else I had smelt before and was really invigorating and fresh. I assumed it was a new range they had just come out with as I had never seen or heard of it before and it wasn't later until I got home that I found out it is actually an aftershave for men and it has been around awhile.

I didn't let this put me off as the scent is absolutely stunning and it doesn't smell overly masculine to me. In fact a lot of my girlfriends have asked me what it is I am wearing and are surprised when I tell them it is a male fragrance. I think that because none of the Clinique counters in my town actually sell it that it gives it an air of exclusivity as it seems to be hard to come by.

The bottle is pretty simple and is just a clear glass bottle wth the name etched into it and a silver lid. I wouldn't say it is masculine and I think this is what confused me with it as it doesn't say anything on it about it being a man's fragrance. The only reason I even know it is for men is that I went on the clinique website to see if they sold any other products in the range and it was listed under aftershaves.

The smell is really zingy and quite citrusy but it is extremely fresh. Even though it is very potent and quite heavy this freshness never leaves me feeling overwhelmed by it.
I would liken it to something like CK One, not in how it smells but in that they both have that fresh clean smell about them.
Apparently the top notes are: lavender, mint, neroli and lemon. The middle notes are: cyclamen, coriander, ginger and pepper and the base notes are: sandalwood, musk, oakmoss and cedar.

I'm not sure I get much of those notes except perhaps the lemon which seems to be the dominant smell at least as far as I am concerned.Perhaps I like this so much as I adore the neroli fragrance from the body shop. Who knows all I am sure of is that I love it and thankfully I had to buy a 100ml bottle as this was all that they sold so I can see it is going to last me a long time which is good as I said it seems to be hard to come by. The price of a 100ml bottle at the airport was £36.50 but it is also available online direct from clinique for £40.

Only a couple of sprays are needed with this as it really is that strong and long lasting. I realise that recommending a man's fragrance may seem strange but if you get the oppertunity you should definately give it a try as it is so distinctive and unusual and in no way smells overly masculine and really can be used as a unisex fragrance. If you don't feel comfortable buying it for yourself then get it for the man in your life as then you can both get the benefit from smelling this gorgeous scent.

Summary: A lovely fresh fragrance that to me is suitable for both men and women
