Advantages: Quality Eyeshadows and nice texture
Disadvantages: colours preselected in set
Clinique Colour Surge Eye Shadow Quad
I quite like neutral colours for eye shadow and I like to collect pinks and browns to then mix with beiges. I also like a bit of dazzle so occasionally go for shinier colours or silvers and mix between MAC/Clinique and Urban Decay. I don't often buy eye shadows as I find they tend to last me quite a while too as I a not a heavy eye shadow wearer.
Why Clinique
I have many Clinique products including foundation, mascara, eyeliner and lip-gloss. I like Clinique products because they seem to suit my sensitive skin and are allergy tested and 100% fragrance free. Clinique is a good quality designer brand that is also relatively inexpensive considering the name. As mentioned in previous reviews when I have been to the USA I tend to stock up on Clinque products as the prices are always a fab deal at nearly half the price when the dollar exchange rate has been good! However in the case of this eye shadow I purchased it from House of Fraser in England when they were doing a deal when you bought two items. As I was already purchasing a mascara I decided to also purchase a eye shadow and fell for this one as it was a 4 in 1 set and I thought that was good value and I also liked the combination shades in the set.
The Product/Packaging
Clinique Colour Surge eye Shadow Quad is a 4 colour eye shadow set and comes in many combinations. The combinations are of 4 similar colours to compliment one another to help achieve a specific look. You ca apply one colour or more to build up a look. You get a rectangular case which is about 6cm long and 2cm in width which has a plastic bas and silver plated lid with Clinique written on in smallish writing. Once you open the quite thick case there is a mirror along the inside of the lid and a tray of 4 colours and 2 applicators. There is a small brush and small applicator with silver handles. In the tray are the 4 colours
My Quad
I have this in the pink/chocolate version which is number 112 and the colours are a good combination. There is a pink/beige colour which has a smooth feel to it. Next is a pink glitter colour then chocolate brown and a plain brown colour.
To apply there is the applicator bud or brush and the bud gives a deeper coverage and is more dramatic and bettetr for the darker of the colours in the quad. The brush is more smooth and better for blending the beige/pink or glitter pink.
The eye shadows have a smooth feel to them and are a little powdery in texture which is good as they do not feel oily or silky on the eyes. They blend in easily and mix together well. This set is particularly good for day wear and you build up the layers if you want a more dramatic look. The glittery aspect is not overbearing and gives that added shine and appeal to the eyes. These colours work well against my Clinique black high impact mascara and would go equally well with brown.
I am happy with the purchase of these as they have lasted a long time and have not cracked at all or become caked. They are good value as are Clinique and you get 4 for £20 approx. The case has looked after the inside eye shadows well but is a little peeled on the front of the silver edges of the lid.
I would recommend this to anyone wanting daywear sweet colours that can be built up in layers and of a quality as you don't need much to get a decent coverage. There are other combination colour sets by Clinique out there too.
Summary: a good 4 in 1 combintation set
