Advantages: Fabulous in every single way
Disadvantages: None
When it comes to buying a mascara I'm the first to admit I'm rather silly about it. I never make a huge splash financially because I'm worried that like so many I've tried over the years it will be complete rubbish so I end up buying mid range priced one's that well.... are just that.. crap in a tube.
I'm also the first to admit that although I'm a qualified Beauty Therapist when it comes to applying my mascara I'm much less than good about it. Well I'm back to using the rubbish word again and that's being polite about myself!
I have never in most of my adult life found a mascara to rave about. I have never deliberately gone back into a shop knowing what mascara I wanted to purchase and bought it again. I have repurchased over the years but mainly due to price or forgetting how manky it was in the first place! It's not a product I enjoy buying, it's not one I enjoy using at all and whatever I use I usually get by ok with it so I don't overly worry about buying stuff cheap though on my eyes I'm fussy about the brands I use as I do have overly sensitive eyes that love a good ole cry!
I purchased this new and off Ebay. In fact I bought 6 for a fiver including postage and packaging and they were all full sized, sealed and were definitely not old stock which pleased me greatly because I got such an amazing bargain (they are normally around £12.50 each after all). I ended up keeping a couple of tubes and giving mates one as a treat so at the moment we are all using the same stuff lol (makes a change from them stealing my things and I do hate sharing eye make up and lipsticks!).
The Packaging....
Black long recyclable, plastic tube in 8ml size (standard size for a mascara), with silver writing on the front telling me it is Clinique, High Impact Mascara, (mascara impact optimal). On the back I'm told my colour which in my case is 01, Black and given a caution about what to do if irritation occurs, there's a bit of writing on it in a foreign language (I don't understand), contact details for Clinique are given and finally I'm told it's made in Canada and size is given (as I've stated already). All in all it's nice classy packaging and although I've owned mine now for a couple of months the writing hasn't scratched off although kept with lots of other make up in a case and it hasn't faded and just simply looks classy and as good as new which is a big selling point to me as I don't like things to looks scruffy and old before their time and I like my things to look pleasing to the eye.
Using It...
Well it's a winner on every level this from the packaging being nice to the brush to the colour. It's just excellent. Simply untwist the lid/handle and your greeted with a black, long, plastic wand with a brush situated at the bottom. It's sturdy and quite thick and really is a brush opposed to hairs and nylon bits sticking out all over the place! It's not particularly shaped or contoured which worried me when I first saw it but don't be put off it's a great, simple and effective brush!
It's very easy to apply this product and on a few occasions (not with this mascara) I've ended up putting my eyeliner on, painting on mascara and then made as much mess as I needed to whilst trying to coat my lashes and get right up to the rim as to cover the roots that I've had to resort to getting out cotton wool buds and wiping the mess up with eye make up remover before then trying really carefully to apply eyeshadow and the likes to finish my make up off which is really a horrible pain. Well them days are gone for me thanks to this. Even with unsteady hands like mine I can apply all my make up and simply brush through my eyelashes, and with no mess at all and go, simple.
It's very moist though of course drip free. No off putting odours and I can take this right up to my rim without bits of hair off a crap brush tickling my eyes and my eyes watering as the odour is so strong. It evenly coats my eyelashes and in my case I have a lovely glossy black colour.
I can coat and keep on coating till I get the desired effect I'm after without my eyes getting caked up in gunk for an evening look. Even with me sat whacking on coat after coat to get a really thick and long effect although I can always feels mascara on my lashes I don't feel weighed down. This is also perfect for day time usage because as well as making eyelashes appear thicker and longer even with just one coat of mascara you control the effects and can go for a subtle 'day' look. If I had a nice complexion, as I have short crabby lashes which are quite light I'd use this alone as no mess would give away the secret that I've used any mascara at all. It really can be that natural and effective!
This has been more than enough product to last me up to twice a day of usage. It hasn't dried up and the recommended time to use a mascara is three months (due to germs and bacteria) and I definitely have more than enough left and will end up losing some of it when I start a new tube as I said for hygiene reasons. It hasn't clogged in the tube or dried out any and time after time the same lovely results are given to my eyelashes. I don't find on my brush or wand that I get any bits of cloggy rubbish I have to wipe out on the top of my tube thus creating a mess. If ever I do get a little bit of congealed mascara on the end of my eyelash it brushes out easily and fades into the brush and vanishes. If you do get a little bit of product anywhere it shouldn't be it comes off with a gentle rub with some cotton wool/ cotton wool bud and water.
This mascara stays put where you apply it till you choose to remove it. It stays glossy for hours, is smudge-proof and it is waterproof through tears and rain (in my experience though I have never gone swimming in it and I wouldn't!) and stays glossy for hours as I have said and doesn't dry up on the eyes and/or flake on to the face or into the eyes. As I said earlier my eyes are incredibly sensitive and not once have I had any problems with this at all.
To remove this is simple. Your usual make up remover wipes or cleanser and toner method are fine though if you want to you can of course use a separate eye make up remover if you wish as I do but whatever you use is fine it comes off simply and with no tell tail signs and no scrubbing like a mad thing required!
In Conclusion....
Really worth its £12.50 price tag (in places like Boots and Debenhams though do look around online for it like I did). It lengthens eyelashes, separates them and defines them (I can visibly see the difference) and plumps them out and is versatile to how you want to look. It's glossy none agitating, long wearing and long lasting. I'd recommend this to anyone of any age it's simply that good to use and fuss free. This has now solved my issue of not knowing which mascara to buy from now on. Yes a little high priced but sometimes you get what you pay for in life and this is perfection for me and made putting my slap on a joy! Excellent Clinique! With this you lead the way and show the opposition why your really such an established brand and not one to be messed with!
Also available in brown and blue.
Summary: A mature, sophisticated little number from Clinique
