Clinique Naturally Glossy Mascara

I don’t really have much trouble with my eyelashes, I’m very dark-haired so I wouldn’t say mascara would be top of the list of things I would take to a desert island with me. I know that to some women choose it as their 'number one couldn’t live without item', but I’d say mine would be blusher or bronzing powder of some kind. However, I would rule it out completely from my make up bag and it’s always good to accentuate what you’ve got... I mean isn’t that why wonder bras were invented? If I were to take a particular type of mascara to a desert island with me though, it would definitely be this one.

I have tried many types of mascara’s over time, and I’m not usually a fan of Clinique (see my three step review), but when buying products for someone else I was given a freebie bag which indeed contained a small trial version of Clinique’s naturally glossy mascara. So even though I am dubious about Clinique and their claims to make you beautiful, I figured it couldn’t do any harm to try it out, it was free after all :o)

After a few days of wearing this mascara I had someone tell me how naturally long my eyelashes were, they couldn’t believe it when I told them I was actually wearing mascara. You see, this mascara is so light that even after a few coats it doesn’t look obvious that you are wearing any makeup. It doesn’t clump unless you cake it on (which would happen with any mascara, they key is in the application), isn’t that the idea of make-up after all, to look like your not wearing any when you actually are? So Number 1, YES this mascara lives up to the claims of being ‘natural’.

Moving on to ‘glossy’, I’d say the word to describe this mascara after applying it would be ‘glossy’, it makes your lashes stand out with a kind of shine-like quality. It also doesn’t go flaky and dry because of the glossy texture. It stays put on your eyelashes after all sorts, I even find it difficult to remove all of the mascara with eye make up remover, and I’ve often woken up in the morning with the remains still around my eyes, and had to repeat the eye make up removal in the morning.

According to the Clinique website you can only purchase this mascara in two colours, ‘Jet Black’ (which is what I use), and ‘Jet Brown’, but I’m pretty sure (it was a while ago though) when I bought my mascara there was more than two shades to choose from.

I think that my favourite part of this mascara is the brush, it’s just the right size, and it’s quite bushy so it gathers most lashes after a single coat. The brush seems to almost lift the lashes, almost as if you’ve used an eye lash curler.

I also, really like the silver packaging, it is really nice to have on your dressing table and its classy because it doesn’t have names scrawled all over it. It merely has a little sticker on the bottom of the tube that details what the name of the mascara is and the colour. I have to point out though that the lovely silver tube doesn’t stay lovely after a while, after about 6 months in my makeup bag it is looking a little worse for wear, it’s slightly dented and scratched, but it still looks glamorous!

This mascara retails at about £12.50, but I’d say well worth it as it lasts ages, I’ve had mine for well over six months and it’s only now starting to run out. Another thing to point out is that I haven’t noticed much of a drop in quality in the mascara over time. Most mascaras have to be thrown out before you’ve reached the bottom of the tube as they start to get hard and become clumpy and flaky when you apply them to your lashes. I can honestly say I haven’t noticed this with this mascara, and I’d recommend it to anyone. When used with eye lash curlers this gives an even better effect.

I got some free goodies on Saturday when I bought my Clinique foundation and there is a mascara in the pack. I'm off to check if it is this glossy mascara and will check it out. Thanks.
